Chapter 125: The License Plate Number Is Mine

“Dad, Mom, what happened?” Yelena descended the staircase, rubbing her eyes. Upon seeing Walden in his police uniform, she was evidently taken aback. “Why are there cops here? Did someone get into trouble?”

Just as George was about to speak, Walden stopped him with a raised hand. “If I’m not mistaken, you must be Mr. Quixall’s daughter, right? Based on your speculation, who do you think is more likely to have committed the crime?”

To her surprise, Yelena found herself being questioned and was immediately flustered. “No… no one. My family are all law-abiding citizens. They would never commit a crime.”

“Is that so…” Walden responded with a smile. “What about your younger brother, Caleb? What do you think of him?”

Yelena had never been in such a stressful situation before; it was so intimidating that her legs felt weak. Still, she had committed perjury five years ago, so she had some experience under such circumstances. “Even though he sometimes stirred up trouble outside, causing some problems at home, I still love him dearly.” She let out a soft sigh. “Ugh, I have no idea where he went off to today. I haven’t seen him anywhere.”

Walden asked, “Did he say anything to you before he left?” Yelena shook her head. “He has his own social circle. After getting out of prison, he didn’t really interact with us much. As for his private matters, it’s even less likely that he would share them with us.”

Her disappointed appearance was incredibly convincing. Unable to find any flaws in her statement, Walden decided to switch to a different question. “Do you know that he had a car accident this morning?”

Startled, Yelena’s eyes instantly welled up with tears. “How… How could this… Boo hoo… Jesse is still hospitalized, and now, what happened to him?” Tears streamed down her face, making her look utterly pitiful.

“Don’t be sad. He has already received treatment.”

“That’s good then…”

Chapter 125: The License Plate Number Is Mine

“As for what you mentioned earlier, about Mr. Jesse Quixall,” Walden continued, “Is Jesse also ill? What exactly is his illness?”

With a tissue, Yelena wiped away her tears. “He has a heart condition. He didn’t listen to our advice and ate too much seafood. He even consumed several plates of fruit, which ultimately led to his hospitalization… He was already frail. Now, he’s suffering from food poisoning. It’s possible that this incident came as a shock to him, nearly causing us to lose him…”

Walden said sympathetically, “Jesse really has had it tough.” Finally, he straightened himself up. “Alright, today’s visit was just to get a sense of the situation. Once there’s progress, we’ll be back for another visit. We hope you’ll continue to cooperate with our investigation then.”

George rose to escort Walden out. “Certainly, certainly…” Just as he had walked Walden to the door, Walden halted his steps. He suddenly turned around and asked, “George, do you happen to know the owner of a car with 537 in the license plate number?”

A bead of cold sweat slid down George’s forehead. 537. Those numbers were part of his license plate. The surveillance cameras in this area have been tampered with by me, so how did the police manage to get my license plate number? Could it be…

With suppressed irritation, George replied with a smile, “My license plate number is quite similar. Is there an issue with my car?”

Walden waved his hand dismissively. “Not at all. However, in that case, would you mind if we took a look at your garage?”
