Revenge Forged in Prison

Chapter 190: Feeling Unsatisfied

Raquel furrowed her brows. “What kind of question is this?” Why am I blamed for their inability to find me, even though it isn’t my fault? I didn’t know they would come looking for me…

Caleb’s gaze was steady. “Just answer the question. Don’t worry about anything else.”

With a sense of resignation, Raquel said, “All right. Indeed, I came back alone. I didn’t see my parents.”

The smile on Caleb’s lips broadened. “Ms. Levinson, you’re being too careless.”

Raquel’s heart sank. “What are you saying? What do you mean by I’ve been too careless?”

Her mind was constantly whirring, repeatedly mulling over the words she had just spoken. There weren’t any flaws in my words. Why did Caleb say I was careless?

With a half smile, Caleb said, “Ms. Levinson, if things are as you’ve described—that you were kidnapped by a group of burly men and had no choice but to escape—you only had two options after running away: either hail a taxi and escape by car, or flee on foot, but risk getting easily caught. Let’s put aside how you managed to escape for now. You’re covered in so much dirt. Surely, you didn’t get it from a taxi ride, did you? Are you going to say that the taxi cab you took was filled with dirt, and that’s why you’re so filthy, looking just like a beggar?”

Raquel’s nails dug deeply into the palm of her hand. “I made it back here on my own. It’s just that I was lucky enough not to get caught. What? Are you unsatisfied with that?”

Caleb looked at her with a smile. “That would make the situation even more unbelievable. Your dress is so voluminous, and your wedding gown is so white it seems to glow. As you walked down the street, it was easy to draw people’s attention. How could Mr. Levinson and Mrs. Levinson, of all people, not notice you when you’re dressed like that?”

Raquel was acutely aware that she had fallen into Caleb’s trap. She opened her mouth to speak. “I…”

She stammered for quite a while, yet she couldn’t utter a complete sentence. After a while, she was frustrated and changed her tune. “I took a taxi here! The dirt on my gown is from the abandoned building I was in. It has nothing to do with the taxi!”

Caleb, said in shock, “Abandoned buildings usually have windows. Didn’t you mention that it was a sealed-off space? An abandoned building hardly qualifies as a sealed-off space!”

Seeing the growing suspicion among the present guests, Raquel was thrown into a state of panic. “Who said that abandoned buildings didn’t have sealed-off spaces? The place where I was held captive wasn’t near…”

Caleb revealed an even more stunned expression. “Ms. Levinson, weren’t you kidnapped? So, whether it was before or after you fled, you should have been terrified when faced with several burly men who were taller than you. How could you still have the leisure to observe that building?”

Stammering, Raquel responded, “Well… This is what I saw when I was escaping. Once I left the room, the sunlight flooded in immediately. I’m not a fool. How could I not notice?”

Caleb gave a slight nod. “Let’s go with that, then. Final question: how did you, a woman, manage to escape from those burly men while wearing that cumbersome wedding dress?”

All the guests present were also eager to know the answer to this question. How could Raquel, a helpless woman, possibly escape from the clutches of several burly men? Even if the one who was seized by the burly men was a man, it was doubtful he could have escaped unscathed.

Incredibly, Raquel managed to escape from her kidnappers, despite her hair being a bit disheveled and her skirt slightly torn. It was truly beyond comprehension.
