Revenge Forged in Prison
Chapter 212: More Anxious Than the One Involved
Since that day, the relationship between Caleb and Phillip greatly improved. With Phillip’s approval, the hospital staff, owned by the Sherman family, no longer made things difficult for Caleb. Everything seemed to be progressing positively.
That day, Chelsea arrived at the hospital room. She appeared somewhat anxious, as if she had encountered some sort of emergency. Caleb had a certain fondness for her. Seeing her in such a state, he couldn’t help but suggest, “Ms. Yardley, why don’t you sit down and catch your breath? We can talk afterward.”
Chelsea pursed her lips, declining his kind offer. “No, there’s something really important I need to tell you now.”
“What’s the matter?”
“Over the past few days, Mr. Xiques has been consistently sending men to the Quixall family. Rumor has it that his late wife gave birth to a baby boy twenty-five years ago, and that baby boy… after much trouble, ended up with the Quixall family.”
Chelsea stared intently into Caleb’s eyes. “You understand what I’m saying, right?”
Caleb paused for a moment, then quickly realized what she was conveying. He had lived with the Quixall family for twenty years, followed by a five-year stint in prison. Based on the sequence of events, that baby boy should be about the same age as he was now. The Quixall family only had two sons. One was Jesse, and the other was him, if one could still consider him their son.
When Harris went to the Quixall residence to find his long-lost son, the person he was looking for could only be either Jesse or him. Since he wasn’t at the Quixall residence and Jesse was known for his cunning ways, it was clear the latter would end up being acknowledged by Harris as his son.
Understanding the matter was one thing, but just because he understood, it didn’t necessarily mean he had to act on it. Caleb casually remarked, “Isn’t this a good thing? After leaving the Quixall family, he’s now under the protection of an even more powerful family. This is a cause for celebration.”
Chelsea frowned. “Are you genuinely naive or just pretending to be? Don’t you understand what will happen to you now that his status has risen?”
Currently, she was able to protect him due to her status as the daughter of the Yardley family. However, once Jesse joined the Xiques family and used their power to bully Caleb, she would be powerless to help.
Therefore, under no circumstances could Jesse be recognized as Harris’ son. It had to be Caleb, without a doubt.
Suddenly, Caleb let out a soft chuckle. “Ms. Yardley, why are you so worried? This is my problem after all,” he said.
“I…” Chelsea was momentarily at a loss for words. After a while, she glared at him resentfully. “If you keep this up, I’m really going to start ignoring you!”
This truly is a case of someone else being more anxious than the person involved. Since Caleb doesn’t care, why should I, an outsider, bother? This is so frustrating!
Seeing that she was genuinely upset, Caleb stopped messing with her. He said seriously, “Ms. Yardley, it’s not that I don’t want to fight for it, but Jesse is way more powerful than I am. I don’t even stand a chance in competing for something he wants.”
Seeing that Chelsea was about to say something else, he promptly interrupted her, “Besides, Jesse’s current status is still that of the youngest son of the Quixall family. If he wants to elevate himself by joining the Xiques family, he would have to renounce his identity as a member of the Quixall family. The only reason the Quixall family treats him so well is that they share a blood bond. Would they still indulge him as they do now, once they realize he has other intentions and wants to cast them aside?”
Chelsea had a sudden epiphany. “So, you’re saying that even if you didn’t intervene, Jesse would be burned from playing with fire?”
Caleb nodded in agreement. “Indeed. Let’s wait and see how Jesse handles this mess.”
If it isn’t handled well, Jesse would lose the trust of both families, ending up with nothing. That’s something I’m looking forward to seeing.
