Listen to this chapter:

Jeffrey shouted in horror, "No! You can't do this! Evangeline, be merciful. I'll give you whatever you want. Please let go of me!" His face was pale, his body trembling. He was horrified. Ten years on the battlefield, torturing countless others, had not prepared him for such cruelty. Evangeline's brutality was shocking; yet, she remained calm and indifferent, as if observing a commonplace event. Her cold eyes intensified his horror.

She didn't appear tough—in fact, she seemed almost frail, almost a doormat. She even smiled frequently. But beneath that weak exterior lurked a cruel heart. He'd never encountered anyone like her before, and deeply regretted joining this show. Evangeline chuckled. "Don't look like that. I haven't done anything to you, but your begging makes me look bad." Jeffrey's lips twitched. She did little herself, but constantly directed others.

"Ignore him. Just do it," Evangeline said.

Riley nodded, instructing Marian to restrain Jeffrey.

In the forest, Jeffrey screamed, "Ah!" He rolled on the ground, screaming in agony. The sharp pain was excruciating, amplified by overwhelming fear.

Back in the room with the wealthy men, the atmosphere was thick with tension. Gloom hung heavy in the air. They watched the screen, clenching their fists, vicariously experiencing Jeffrey's pain. Some looked terrified, their bodies slick with sweat; others felt uneasy, fearing a similar fate should Evangeline capture them.

John gritted his teeth, roaring, "Damn her! How dare she disrespect us? She'll be dead soon!"

Kenji added, "Evangeline is brutal. We can't let her escape; she'll take revenge!"

Presley agreed. "Exactly. After the bounty tasks, we catch her, have our fun, then kill her. She won't leave alive."

John took a deep breath, suppressing his anger. "Where's the helicopter?"

Kenji replied, "I've sent for it. Three helicopters and nine men, armed with pistols and submachine guns. Evangeline can't escape this time!"

John sneered. "Evangeline, your arrogance ends now!"

Presley sighed. "It's a shame about Jeffrey. He's lost first place, and we'll have to pay."

John said fiercely, "No. As long as he's alive, we'll make him first place!"

Suddenly, a man stood, trembling. "John, I just received word of a crisis at my company. I must go home immediately."

John said impatiently, "Go then. You're useless here anyway."

The man quickly thanked him and hurried out, fearing John might change his mind.

Despite sending armed men, John remained uneasy. He believed Evangeline could be caught, yet the unease persisted. He decided to escape—a coward's choice. Evangeline's capture would simply mean missing some fun; her escape, however, meant grave danger. His escape might save his life.

Several more men claimed urgent business and left. John cursed them but let them go. Outside, they discussed their departure.

"Why are you leaving? Why not wait for John's men?"

"John said Evangeline will seek revenge. She's probably well-prepared. I doubt the armed men will catch her, so I'm leaving."

"Even prepared, she's just an ordinary person with some skills. How can she fight gunmen? Besides, he's sent many men. She can't escape. Why leave?"

"I I have things to deal with at home."

"Me too."

In the forest, Evangeline instructed Riley to remove the vines binding Jeffrey, replace them with a rope around his neck, and then remove his clothes. Riley approached, rope in hand. Evangeline sat on the white tiger's back, long whip in hand.

Jeffrey crawled slowly; she whipped him. He was in agony. Spotting a stone, he tried to hit his head, but Marian kicked him over. Evangeline whipped him again. "How dare you disrespect life? Do you know how hard I worked to save you? You're covered in wounds, and you want to die? I'm disappointed." Jeffrey trembled with rage. He didn't need her saving; the pain was unbearable. Each second was torture. His body was ruined; even survival meant disability. Death seemed preferable.

But Evangeline wouldn't let him die.

Jeffrey lay still, refusing to crawl. He'd anger her into killing him, ending his suffering. "I won't crawl. Do what you want. Kill me!"

He craved death, his only release.

Evangeline sighed. "You don't value your life. I gave you a chance, but you only want to die. Okay, I respect your choice."

She told Riley and Marian, "Start a fire and burn him. He's tall; his body would pollute the environment. Use the forest's grasses and trees; a small fire will reduce the risk of disaster. Let him watch; it's good to know how you die."
