Listen to this chapter:

Marian and Riley gathered firewood and started a fire. Marian restrained Jeffrey, preventing him from struggling and escaping; Riley held his other hand.

Jeffrey screamed, "Ahhh!" The intense pain was far worse than the pain of losing his legs. Despite his violent struggles, he couldn't break free. He cried and begged, "Evangeline, please kill me! I beg you, kill me quickly! This is unbearable!"

Evangeline smiled. "Am I not killing you? Don't worry, it won't take long. It'll be two or three days."

Jeffrey's pupils shrank in despair. Two or three days felt like an eternity. He sobbed, "I can't take it! Please kill me now!"

Evangeline sighed, disappointed. "You're an Atharian. You can't endure this? You're a disgrace!"

Jeffrey cried, "I'm a loser. All Atharians are losers. Please kill me."

Evangeline replied, "I respect life. I won't kill casually. Don't tempt me."

Jeffrey's lips twitched. Evangeline continued, "I'll let you live a little longer. You've done evil things; I'll let you experience human happiness—for as long as possible."

Jeffrey wailed, "Ah! I don't want to live! Stop! Kill me!"

Evangeline, smiling gently, noted his exhaustion. She kindly pushed food toward his mouth. "Eat something."

Jeffrey shook his head, terrified. He refused the food.

Evangeline said calmly, "You don't want to eat? I can put the food directly into your stomach. I can easily keep you alive and make you more sensitive to the pain."

Jeffrey, devastated, opened his mouth and wept. Marian and Riley hung their heads, frightened. Evangeline's calm demeanor was terrifying; no one dared disobey her. A white tiger, however, played happily nearby, roaring and rolling. Its joy contrasted sharply with Jeffrey's suffering.

In the room for the wealthy men, John and the others felt a chill. They held their breath; John's fists trembled. Evangeline's composure was chilling. She showed no pleasure in the torture, nor any fear; she seemed detached, observing something ordinary. This unnerved them.

Someone broke the silence, "Evangeline is horrible."

John took a deep breath. "Don't be afraid. Our men are coming with weapons. Evangeline will be caught! She won't find us!"

They nodded nervously, agreeing that weapons would overcome her.

After hearing their reassurances, John seized the opportunity to berate them. "Losers! Afraid of her little tricks? Stupid!" He dismissed their fear, ordering them not to bring Evangeline to him.

Everyone breathed a sigh of relief. Kenji stood, claiming he needed the bathroom; Presley followed, stating the same.

Outside, Presley asked Hasan, in a low voice, "Do you want to escape?"

Hasan denied it vehemently, claiming loyalty to John. Presley, however, revealed he had an urgent matter at home and proposed they leave together, texting John later. They left quickly.
