Chapter 1066: Theodore's Explanation
Little Bunny's unexpected discovery of Theodore kissing another woman was embarrassing. Theodore, startled by Samson's call, realized his mistake. He had mistaken Caroline for Little Bunny. He immediately pushed Caroline away, causing her to stumble against a pillar. Caroline, initially believing Theodore had enjoyed the kiss, was confused and hurt by his abrupt rejection. She felt his earlier desire and believed they would have had sex had they not been interrupted.
Recovering, she watched Theodore sprint toward Little Bunny. Samson, equally embarrassed, hadn't intended to call out, but seeing Theodore kissing another woman โ especially given their reason for being in that desolate place โ he felt compelled to reveal Little Bunny's presence. Having known Theodore for years, Samson suspected Theodore hadn't realized his mistake; otherwise, his reaction wouldn't have been so frantic.
"Little Bunny," Theodore began.
She ignored him.
"I thought it was you," Theodore explained urgently. "I didn't even open my eyes! I didn't know it wasn't you!"
His explanation meant little to her, given his history with other women. She felt only a slight pang of regret for abandoning her request for his help.
"It's all your fault!" Theodore exclaimed, frustration rising.
Little Bunny finally glanced at him, noticing a lingering trace of Caroline's kiss on his lips. The sight didn't evoke jealousy, but disgust. She quickly averted her gaze.
"Weren't you supposed to be back earlier? I've been waiting for lunch, and I'm tired!"
"If I hadn't been sleepy, I wouldn't have mistaken her for you," Theodore replied.
Little Bunny disregarded his explanation.
"And another thing! Why do you always refuse to let me kiss you?"
Little Bunny frowned.
"You keep rejecting me! I'd forgotten what you tasted like until just now! If not for that, I wouldn't have made this mistake! Those lips weren't as soft," Theodore complained.
His explanation only increased her disgust; his description felt like a recounting of a passionate encounter. Fortunately, Little Bunny's lack of feelings for Theodore spared her deeper hurt. Samson, observing, worried about his boss's clumsy pursuit. He doubted Theodore would ever win Little Bunny over.
Caroline reappeared, seemingly regaining her composure. Little Bunny and Theodore both looked at her.
"I pushed Mr. Wold away, but his grip was too strong... I..." Tears welled in her eyes, reflecting shame and guilt.
Theodore snapped, "Don't cry here! I don't want to see you again! Go!"
Caroline suppressed her anger. His earlier kiss had suggested easy seduction, but his swift change of heart was jarring. He had been physically attracted to her, but only because of Little Bunny. What made Little Bunny so special? Caroline considered Little Bunny sanctimonious. Perhaps Theodore preferred women who were less forward. Had she been too aggressive?
An awkward smile crossed Caroline's face. "Alright, I won't disturb you. I'm leaving."
Before leaving, she turned back. "I came to apologize for last night. I'm sorry for the misunderstanding, but it only got worse today... I..."
Theodore's silencing glare cut her short. Caroline departed with a gloomy expression; she had failed again.
After Caroline left, Theodore attempted to take Little Bunny's hand, but she instinctively recoiled, feeling unclean. He sighed, his expression souring. "Are you angry?"
Little Bunny remained silent.
"I'll be more careful next time," Theodore said, his tone a blend of defeat and stubbornness, lacking sincerity.
"You don't have to," Little Bunny replied. "You can be with whomever you want; we have nothing."
"Liar," Theodore murmured, a hint of a smile betraying his belief that she was jealous.
"Don't worry, I'm serious about you now," he added.
Little Bunny doubted his sincerity, believing he'd discard her at the first sign of disinterest.
"Let's go eat; I'm starving!" Theodore declared, unconcerned with her feelings, certain the incident would quickly blow over.
Little Bunny followed him to the yard, knowing she couldn't afford to antagonize him yet.
"When are you leaving?" she asked, wanting to know how much longer she'd have to endure him.
