Chapter 330
Dane
Damn itโฆ she tricked me. โAurora, how could you?โ I muttered, rushing toward the door only to see her slip outside with a smug grin. How did she even open the door so quickly?
โYou little trickster,โ I growled, leaning against the wall. I wanted to go after her, but looking down at myself, I groaned. This is all my fault. Why did I get carried away? Bending her over like that, catching a glimpse of herโฆ Now Iโm stuck. I sighed in frustration, running a hand through my hair.
โDane, arenโt you coming?โ Aurora called from outside, her voice light with amusement.
โSlโs doing this on purpose. I know it,โ I muttered. โYou both go on ahead,โ I called back. โIโll catch up.โ
โOh, really? Is there something youโre hiding?โ she teased, her voice full of mischief.
I clenched my jaw, my smile fading. This girl will be the death of me. โNo,โ I replied, trying to sound casual.
Moments later, her head popped back into the room. Leaning against the doorframe, her eyes glinted with mischief as she glanced down, clearly noticing my predicament. โAre you sure?โ she asked, smirking.
โYes, Aurora. Iโm sure,โ I said aloud, but in my mind, I pleaded for her to stop tormenting me. I clasped my hands together in a silent prayer, pointing at my obvious issue and begging her with my eyes.
Her smirk widened. Licking her lips dramatically, she tilted her head. โSorry, Mr. Montague. Your offer looksโฆ tempting, but I just wanted to poke at your ego.โ
I let out a defeated groan as she stepped away, leaving me utterly exasperated. โHow about I put my โegoโ inside you?โ I shot back, gritting my teeth.
Auroraโs eyes widened in shock, and she turned away quickly. My stomach sank remembering Evander was standing outside.
โShit,โ I muttered, running my hand through my hair.
โNo, he didnโt mean it like that,โ I heard Aurora say to Evander, trying to smooth things over.
โOโฆkay?โ Evander replied, clearly unconvinced.
Their footsteps receded, leaving me alone in the room, simmering with frustration. Dropping into the chair behind Auroraโs desk, I rubbed my temples and shook my legs, waiting for my body to calm down.
Auroraโฆ I swear, Iโm going to get you back for this.
Five minutes later, I glanced down and sighed in relief. The situation had resolved itself, and I stood to leave. The door swung open, and my heart leapt, hoping it was Aurora.
But no. It was Trajan. My excitement deflated instantly.
โYou?โ I asked, unable to hide my disappointment.
Trajan raised an eyebrow. โGood day, Alpha Dane,โ he said, strolling in and taking a seat in Auroraโs chair like he owned the place.
โHm,โ I grumbled, running a hand through my hair as I reached for the door.
โExpecting someone else?โ Trajan asked slyly. โLet me guessโthe love of your life?โ
I groaned, opening the door and pausing to glance back at him. โIโd rather call her the one after my life.โ
Trajan frowned in confusion. โHuh?โ
โNothing,โ I muttered, stepping out into the hallway. I made my way to the pack doctorโs office, curious to see how things would go when Evander faced Piper.
As I neared the gates, I spotted Aurora and Evander ahead. Quickening my pace, I caught up and leaned down to whisper in Auroraโs ear, โHey.โ
She jumped, startled, and nudged me playfully. โDane! Donโt sneak up on me like that.โ
โYou deserved it,โ I teased. โThatโs payback for earlier.โ
She rolled her eyes, muttering something under her breath.
โItโs good youโre here, Dane,โ Evander said, his voice steady but tense. โI need all the support I can get.โ
I nodded. โI thought you two wouldโve been there by now.โ
Aurora shook her head. โWe stopped to check on the kids.โ
โHow are they?โ I asked, genuinely curious.
โThey just had lunch and were napping when I saw them,โ she said, her voice softening.
โGood,โ I replied as we continued toward the doctorโs office.
When we arrived, a young werewolf greeted us at the door.
โMiles?โ Aurora asked, surprise evident in her tone. โYou work here now?โ
Miles nodded, keeping his head down. โYes, Luna. Sir Warrick is in the fourth room.โ
We stepped inside, Aurora leading the way. Before she could move further, Miles called out to her.
โLuna?โ
Aurora turned to him, while I raised a questioning eyebrow. โYes?โ she answered.
โIโฆ I just wanted to apologize for my past mistakes and bad behavior. I shouldnโt have gotten involved with the wrong crowd. Iโve learned my lesson, and I promise Iโm a changed person now.โ
I narrowed my eyes, stepping closer to the young man. โWhat exactly did you do?โ
Miles glanced at Aurora, silently pleading for her intervention.
She placed a calming hand on my arm. โItโs all in the past, Dane. Weโre starting fresh.โ
I sighed, giving Miles a warning look. He gulped and nodded, clearly understanding the unspoken threat.
Aurora tugged on my arm. โLetโs go.โ
We walked down the hallway, the numbered signs on the doors guiding us to the fourth room.
When we entered, Warrick lay on the bed, his face battered and bruised. A bandage wrapped around his head, and smaller dressings dotted his swollen features. Piper sat beside him, her head resting on the bed as she held his hand, her eyes closed.
Evander moved ahead of us, and Warrickโs eyes snapped open. Fear flashed across his face as he recoiled, trying to retreat from Evander.
โNoโฆ stop!โ Warrick stammered, his voice trembling. โI promise I wonโt hurt Piper!โ
โWarrick, no!โ Evander said, raising his hands in a placating gesture.
Piper stirred at the commotion. Her eyes widened as she saw Evander, and anger flared in her expression.
โWhat are you doing here?โ she demanded, storming toward him. โHave you come to finish what you started?โ
โYes,โ Evander growled back, his voice thick with frustration.
Warrick flinched, shifting on the bed as if preparing to flee.
