Chapter 84: A Disgusting Visit
At the hospital, Nora, accompanied by her cousin, Emmanuel Mitchell—dressed in a white double-breasted suit and carrying roses—stood at Cheyenne's ward door.
"My mother forced me to visit. You look pretty good, though—not dead yet," Nora sneered, her tone making everyone nauseous. Cheyenne, however, was used to this behavior.
Kate, disliking Nora intensely, brandished a fruit knife and snapped, "Can't you speak kindly? How dare you curse Cheyenne! We don't welcome you here. Get out!"
Emmanuel, witnessing the tension, intervened. He gently pulled Nora back, saying, "Nora, calm down. Cheyenne is your sister; this upsets her."
Nora, still disgruntled, pouted and snorted. "I considered her a sister, but she doesn't consider me one."
Cheyenne retorted, "Well, I never considered you a sister either. My mother only had one child—me."
Emmanuel, attempting mediation, approached the bed. Kate, wary, stood protectively in front of Cheyenne. He offered his most charming smile.
"Don't worry, Miss Lawrence. I'm Nora's cousin and a friend of Cheyenne's. I'm just checking on her." He presented the roses.
Kate, though easily charmed, found him sleazy, knowing Cheyenne disliked Nora and her relatives. Compared to Emmanuel, even Eddie seemed superior.
"Friend? I know all of Cheyenne's friends, and I don't know you," Kate stated firmly. "Being Nora's cousin doesn't make you related to Cheyenne. And she doesn't like flowers."
Cheyenne, seemingly agreeing, remained indifferent, scrolling through her phone. Emmanuel felt humiliated. Accustomed to female attention, this rejection was unprecedented. Cheyenne showed no interest whatsoever.
Nora, pulling Emmanuel away, scoffed, "Let's go. Cheyenne's attached to the Todd family and doesn't care about you. What's so great about her anyway?" Emmanuel offered polite farewells before leaving. "Miss Lawrence, take care. I'll visit again. Since you dislike flowers, I'll bring something else."
Kate slammed the door shut, dislodging some plaster.
Outside, Nora's face darkened. "I told you Cheyenne's difficult! She saw right through you! Why didn't you believe me?"
Their argument had been staged to showcase Emmanuel's supposed charm and elegance, but it backfired spectacularly.
