Chapter 85: Eddie Loved Medicine

With her outstanding ex-husband, Kelvin, in the picture, how could Emmanuel possibly capture Cheyenne's attention?

Nora walked beside Emmanuel, arms crossed, her anger growing. Hostility radiated from her.

Meanwhile, Emmanuel, a gloomy expression on his handsome face, mused, "That's it for today. To win over a woman like this, you need to gradually delve into the depths of her heart."

"You sound like you understand it all too well," Nora sneered.

Emmanuel ignored her sarcasm, focusing on how to approach Cheyenne next time. They left the room, leaving a peaceful atmosphere in the hospital ward. Kate had a class and left first.

Eddie brought Cheyenne dinner—simple corn rib soup and pineapple lychee pork—which she enjoyed heartily, her cheeks puffing up as she ate. He was still wearing his white coat, stained with fresh red. He pulled up a chair beside her bed. After a sleepless night, he looked exhausted. His tall, slender figure leaned back, his perfect chin supported by one hand. A hint of fondness was in his gaze as he watched her eat. Seeing her enjoyment, he even felt hungry himself.

Cheyenne lifted her head, unaware of the gleam in his eyes, and softly asked, "Eddie, have you eaten yet?"

"I wasn't planning to. I had no appetite. This morning, I performed a dissection on a person killed in a car accident."

Eddie launched into an earnest account. Cheyenne paused mid-bite, slowly chewing her food, feeling strangely unsettled. Eddie, a medical enthusiast, couldn't stop himself once he started talking about something that fascinated him. His lips parted slightly as he continued.

"It's a miracle, Cheyenne. He died in a car accident; the explosion burned his skin to charcoal, emitting a nauseating smell. Steel bars from the car pierced his chest, creating a hole the size of a ping-pong ball—he bled profusely." Eddie held up his hand to demonstrate the size. He continued, "By the time the blood flowed out, it was dark purple. I initially thought he'd bled out from a heart wound. But then I opened his skull… his brain matter was watery, flowing out with a foul odor. I concluded he didn't die from blood loss. I don't know why his brain was like that, so I've temporarily stored his head in the refrigeration room"

He was oblivious to Cheyenne putting down her cutlery and pushing aside the food she'd bitten into. She looked at him with a depressed expression. "Eddie, I think you should stop."

The vivid images of foul-smelling brain matter clashed with her meal. How could she eat? But she was hungry.

Eddie finally stopped, awkwardly rubbing the back of his head. Gently and shyly, he apologized, "Cheyenne, why aren't you eating? Is the food not good?"

"No, I'm full."

"Alright. Later, when I took the head out of cold storage, I made a new discovery…"

Cheyenne stared, blinking, and weakly said, "Oh, you discovered something new?"

Her eager expression fueled Eddie's enthusiasm; he thought she was a good student.

"Yes. His death wasn't ordinary. Cheyenne, remember the blood sample you gave me? I've been studying it, without much progress. But during this surgery, I found a clue. There was a toxin in the blood—Datura stramonium—that could cause paralysis."

Cheyenne shuddered, her emotions stirred. Excitedly, she asked, "What did you say? Is there news?"

Eddie, seeing her happiness, felt his hard work had paid off.

"Yes. I didn't expect this when I got the case last night. Residues of Atropa belladonna were also found in his brain tissue."
