Meanwhile, at the research institute, Cayden incessantly lauded Lucian's merits while helping transport the medicinal herbs. Roxanne remained unmoved.

Frustrated, Cayden left after completing the task. Resentment simmered as he returned to Farwell Group. His dark expression didn't escape Lucian's notice. "What's with that face?" Lucian asked, frowning, suspecting Roxanne had rebuffed his offer of help. Cayden chuckled nervously. "Nothing."

Lucian, sensing Cayden's reluctance to discuss it, simply inquired, "Did you deliver the herbs?"

Cayden, suppressing his grievance, replied, "Yes. Ms. Jarvis received them personally." He expected questions about Roxanne, but Lucian acted as if he hadn't heard, nodding impassively. "Got it. You're dismissed." Cayden was astonished by the brevity of the dismissal.

Hesitantly, Cayden almost mentioned seeing Roxanne and Jack together, but the imagined reaction deterred him. He remained silent. Lucian didn't mention Roxanne again that day. The herbs seemed to mark the end of their interaction.

Watching Lucian leave work with an impassive face, Cayden felt a swirl of emotions. Is Mr. Farwell… really giving up on Ms. Jarvis?

Lucian was unaware of Cayden's thoughts, yet his feelings echoed them. Roxanne's reaction since his illness had profoundly disappointed him. He felt he'd sacrificed enough to atone for his past mistakes, yet she remained unmoved. He decided to pause and reassess their relationship.

He pondered this throughout his drive, eventually stopping at the kindergarten gates. Archie, Benny, and Estella were still in class. For once, he waited.

Later, the children emerged, led by Pippa. They immediately saw him.

"Daddy." Estella's usual excitement was absent. It's been a long time since I've seen Ms. Jarvis. I heard from Archie and Benny that they've tried persuading her to meet Daddy, but she refuses. I wonder what's happened between them. She couldn't foresee the events to come.

Lucian extended his hand to Estella. "Let's go home."

Estella looked up, surprised. "But Ms. Lane isn't here yet." They usually waited for the other children. Archie and Benny were also confused. Previously, Lucian had left immediately due to illness, but now he was clearly recovered.
