Chapter 1027: She Has Given Up On You
Lucian's face fell the moment he heard the news. "How does Roxanne feel about me?" he mused. "I've never considered it before..."
According to her, she'd always treated him like a stranger. Yet, her demeanor suggested otherwise. Could his attempts at courtship have sparked unexpected feelings?
A wry chuckle escaped Lucian. He'd assumed Roxanne would be touched, but her reaction suggested the opposite. She likely viewed his actions as troublesome, wishing he'd leave her alone.
Jonathan's heart sank as Lucian's expression hardened. After a tense silence, he offered, "It's possible Dr. Jarvis has completely given up on you."
Jonathan couldn't fault his methods, concluding the problem lay with Roxanne's feelings. The tension in the office was palpable, yet he pressed on.
"Putting myself in her shoes, I wouldn't forgive you for six years ago either. Dr. Jarvis lived overseas for six years; her return suggests she's let go of the past."
Jonathan's words resonated; Roxanne had claimed they were strangers upon her return.
A shiver ran down Jonathan's spine as Lucian's icy aura seemed to chill the air. He hastily corrected himself, "T-This isn't necessarily bad! If Dr. Jarvis has given up, winning her back will be simpler!"
Lucian's icy gaze brought Jonathan up short. "What am I saying? It won't be simpler! Given Lucian's situation, it's impossibly difficult! Honestly, if I weren't partly responsible for this mess, I'd have left long ago! But I've invested too much; I can't abandon him!"
He cleared his throat. "Perhaps my suggestions weren't adequate."
Lucian merely raised an eyebrow.
Relieved at a glimmer of progress, Jonathan continued, "Every woman is different. What appeals to others may not appeal to Dr. Jarvis. Focus on what she likes."
Lucian remained silent, urging him to continue.
"To win Dr. Jarvis, we need more researchโdiscover what she truly wants," Jonathan explained.
Lucian's sarcastic snicker silenced Jonathan.
"Forget it," Lucian said flatly.
I've invested so much time and effort in Roxanne. I supported her medical aspirations, secured her Damaris Group partnership, and provided the research institute with vital herbs. Yet, she didn't even offer thanks. Perhaps Jonathan is right; she has given up on me.
