Chapter 1085: Devoid of Peace
Emerging from Estella's room, Lucian went straight to his study. He intended to work, but Sonya's words lingered, unsettling him. He mused, "It's true Estella needs a mother. If Aubree genuinely changes her attitude toward Estella, and Estella accepts her, I don't mind marrying her."
After considering this, Lucian called Aubree. She had just spoken with Sonya and eagerly awaited his call. The speed of his call surprised her; she composed herself before answering. "Lucian, I'm surprised you called," she said, carefully suppressing her delight. Lucian, unsuspecting, asked, "Are you free?"
Sensing his purpose, Aubree's throat tightened. "Yes... What's up?" "If you have time, come to the manor for a chat," Lucian replied monotonously.
His invitation caused Aubree to clench her phone. "Sure, I'll go right away!" she agreed. Lucian hummed in acknowledgment before ending the call. He then massaged his forehead, standing before the full-length window. Aubree's response gave him pause. He thought, She still has feelings for me. However, it's too early to know if Estella will accept her.
Aubree quickly prepared herself, and anxiously arranged for her driver to take her to the Farwell residence. The car arrived at the entrance in under half an hour. Nervously alighting, she checked her appearance before ringing the doorbell.
Inside, Catalina, seeing Aubree on the intercom, reported to Lucian, "Mr. Farwell, Ms. Pearson is here. Shall I let her in?"
Lucian replied, "I told her to come." Catalina's heart sank; she quickly glanced at him before averting her gaze. "A-All right... I'll get the door."
Aubree waited at the entrance before the gate finally opened. She easily guessed the delay was due to Catalina.
"Ms. Pearson," Catalina greeted as Aubree entered.
Aubree glared, replying hostilely, "Catalina, don't forget I'm Lucian's guest!" Her words served as a warning.
Catalina hung her head, and cordially informed Aubree, "Mr. Farwell is waiting for you upstairs."
Aubree forcefully brushed past Catalina, who silently turned aside, her heart heavy. Anticipating Lucian's decision, she foresaw an imminent lack of peace in the household. As Aubree ascended the stairs, she continued to glare at Catalina, internally fuming, The day I become Mrs. Farwell, she'll be the first person I fire! She's only been here two years, yet she acts so superior!
