Chapter 1103: What a Nuisance
Naturally, Lucian couldn't hear her. Aubree only said it once before fetching a damp towel to wipe his face. Despite her best efforts, her touch lacked the gentleness of experience.
Lucian frowned in discomfort, instinctively moving away. Seeing this, she stopped and leaned close, whispering, "It's uncomfortable sleeping in those clothes, isn't it? I'll help you."
Carefully, she began unbuttoning his shirt. At the third button, he grasped her wrist. Her heart leaped; she anticipated a development. Instead, Lucian pushed her hand away, muttering, "Don't touch me!" He turned his back.
Aubree's expression changed, but she composed herself, tentatively nudging him. "Lucian, are you awake?" He was asleep again. She dared not continue undressing him.
After a moment's thought, she approached the other side, lifted his arm, intending to create the illusion that he'd pulled her close. Footsteps halted her. Cayden, having left the door ajar, saw her repositioning Lucian. He noticed the unbuttoned shirt.
He eyed Aubree warily. "Ms. Pearson, why are you still here?"
Guilt momentarily overwhelmed her, but she recovered, smiling. "I was worried no one would care for him."
"What were you doing?" Cayden pressed.
A blush crept onto her cheeks as she suppressed her guilt. "He didn't seem comfortable. I wanted to help him turn over. Now you can."
Cayden, with a neutral expression, turned Lucian. However, Lucian immediately shifted back. He had already turned himself.
Cayden looked at Aubree, puzzled. She smiled sheepishly.
"I'll take care of Mr. Farwell. You can rest," he said, politely dismissing her.
She was reluctant. "Lucian asked me to come, how can I leave him? I should care for him."
Cayden glanced at the sleeping Lucian. He guessed Lucian's likely thoughts. Lucian had asked her to come, butโฆ Heโd just broken up with Roxanne; he probably wouldn't rush into another relationship.
"Mr. Farwell needs to change and wash. Since you can't help, I will. Rest in the guest room. I'll inform you when he wakes."
Aubree was annoyed. If not for Cayden, things might have progressed. What a nuisance! She couldn't argue and agreed coldly, "I'll rest. Tell me when Lucian wakes."
