Aubree hesitated. This man had ripped her off! Was it wise to work with him again? He was, however, the only person who could help her escape Lucian's investigation.

Cory, impatient on the other end of the line, said, "If there's nothing else, I'm hanging up. It's late, and we private detectives need sleep too."

"Wait!" Aubree quickly interjected. "I need to talk to you."

Cory raised an eyebrow. "Oh? What else? You didn't owe me anything on your previous commission. Another request means extra payment."

Cory was clearly trying to overcharge her again.

Aubree clenched her fists. "I gave you ten million! What you did wasn't worth that much!"

She heard Cory sneer. "I'm afraid you misunderstand. The ten million covered my fee and the cost of the photos. Or do you think those photos are worthless?"

Aubree gritted her teeth. "How much more do you want?"

Without hesitation, Cory stated his price: "Ten million."

Another ten million! Aubree's rage flared. "Don't push it. We're in the same boat, remember?"

Cory shrugged nonchalantly. "That's why I'm asking this much. Don't forget Farwell's men are tailing me. Stalking him is much harder now."

He glanced around. Lucian's men were still watching him from the shadows. Even though Lucian had ended things with Roxanne, Estella had been a victim, and Lucian wouldn't let the mastermind escape easily.

Aubree couldn't argue with Cory. Weighing the options, she gritted her teeth and agreed. "All right, but you must do a good job!"
