Chapter 1179
At the specialist's remark, Lucian finally relented, a frown etching his features. This time, two specialists accompanied him into the ward, monitoring Roxanne's brainwaves from outside, prepared to alert Lucian to any fluctuations. He stepped into the hospital room. Roxanne remained unconscious on the bed.
"They said you might wake up if I talk to you," he murmured.
Lucian approached the bed with heavy steps. After a long hesitation, he reached for and took Roxanne's limp hand. For once, she didn't resist, but ironically, he felt no joy. Scrutinizing her pale face, his voice softened.
"What would you like to hear?"
He received no response. Lucian chuckled bitterly. Then, an idea struck him. "Seems like there are a lot of misunderstandings between us," he began, his gaze distant. "I was sincere when I said I wanted to pursue you. Your accusation wasn't true. I courted you before the Herbscape Group issue arose."
Though she might not hear him, he continued, rambling. "I went to the florist personally and hand-picked those flowers. I never had the chance to ask if you liked them. But since you returned them all, you probablyโฆ didnโt, yes?" His lips twitched self-deprecatingly. "I don't know whether you disliked the flowers or me."
He divulged, "It was my first time pursuing someone. I lacked experience. I asked Jonathan for advice." Recalling Jonathan's mockery, Lucian found it ridiculous. "He laughed at me repeatedly, but his ideas were useless. When you wake up, I'll settle the score with him."
Outside, the specialists watched Roxanne's brainwaves with somber expressions. Ten minutes had passed. While there were fluctuations, they were minimal. Evidently, he hadn't touched on a subject she truly cared about; the stimulation wasn't sufficient. They exchanged uneasy glances, hesitant to interrupt.
After more time passed, and Roxanne's brainwaves neared static, a specialist finally knocked.
Lucian stopped talking, frowning, and glanced towards the door. Through the window, he saw a specialist beckoning him out cautiously. A flicker of surprise crossed his eyesโhis words had worked. He looked expectant as he left the room. Having grown accustomed to his usual impassivity, the specialists were startled by the change in his expression.
"Well? Any fluctuations?"
Lucian's gaze dropped to the equipment. He didn't need an answer; the screen showed a uniform brainwave pattern. His words had had no effect. The temperature around him plummeted, a sense of defeat washing over him. "Oh well," he thought, "it turns out I'm nobody to herโฆ"
