Chapter 1190
Lucian's expression left Roxanne momentarily dazed. Why was he like this? Was he worried about her? They weren't in a relationship. What could possibly cause such concern?
Lucian let out a deep sigh of relief, feeling the weight lift from his chest. Glancing at the bewildered woman on the bed, he impulsively stepped forward. His gaze was intense, as if it could pierce her.
Meeting his gaze, Roxanne felt a strange unease and looked away.
"How are you feeling? Any discomfort?" Lucian asked before she could fully avert her eyes.
Roxanne's heart ached at the hoarseness in his voice. She lowered her gaze, concealing her emotions. "I don't know. It feels like I've been asleep for a long time."
Frowning, Lucian reached out to feel her forehead. Roxanne froze, her mind going blank. He kept his hand there for a long time. He didn't understand his own actions. He knew Roxanne had been poisoned, yet he used this flimsy excuse to show his care. He simply didn't know how else to express his concern.
Even the children were stunned.
"Mommy, do you have a fever?" Benny asked innocently.
His voice jolted the adults back to reality. Roxanne turned her head to avoid Lucian's touch, flashing the children a reassuring smile. She was about to deny a fever, but then remembered Lucian's earlier actions. Denial would only make his gesture harder to explain.
For a moment, she didn't know how to respond.
Thankfully, a specialist intervened. "Ahem. Ms. Jarvis has just awakened; we need to examine her. Mr. Farwell, could you take the children out for a moment?"
Lucian nodded after a brief silence. "Let's go," he told the children.
They were reluctant to leave; waiting for Roxanne to wake had been agonizing. Estella held Roxanne's hand tightly, visibly anxious, fearing she would fall back asleep.
Roxanne saw their fear and felt a pang of sympathy. "Be good, okay? Go out for a while. I'll wait for you all to come back." She patted their heads.
Estella remained hesitant.
"Darlings, please go. Ms. Jarvis just woke up; she shouldn't be overly emotional. It could affect her condition. You wouldn't want anything to happen to her again, would you?" a specialist coaxed patiently.
The children glanced hesitantly at Roxanne. Archie went to Estella, taking her hand firmly. "Let's go. We'll wait outside while the doctors examine Mommy." He added soothingly, seeing her unease, "Don't be scared. She's awake now. Nothing will happen to her again."
Estella finally nodded slowly and left the room with the boys, glancing back repeatedly.
Lucian spoke briefly with the specialists before leaving.
"Ms. Jarvis, we didn't know you were acquainted with Mr. Farwell," one of the specialists who knew Roxanne remarked.
