Pursuing her lips, Roxanne smiled. “Our children happened to be in the same class, so we were already acquainted.”
However, Roxanne had no idea how she would explain her relationship with Lucian to an outsider. The specialists began her physical examination.
“I can’t help but think your relationship with Mr. Farwell isn’t so simple,” one of the specialists remarked, attempting small talk.
Roxanne was startled. She had no idea how he formed that impression.
He continued, “Mr. Farwell urgently contacted us. We assumed something had happened to his fiancée, but upon arrival, it was you.”
Thinking of Lucian’s likely expression, a wave of emotion washed over Roxanne.
“Mr. Farwell remained with you for a long time while you were unconscious. He was also reluctant to let the children visit, fearing you’d worry,” the specialist stated clearly.
Roxanne lowered her gaze, concealing her feelings. She felt incredibly guilty. Lucian had overreacted in front of the specialists. Given their relationship, his actions were unnecessary. Even she felt he shouldn’t treat her so well, that she shouldn’t hold such an important place in his heart.
“It’s a good thing you woke up. Otherwise, I’d be worried about our future in the medical field,” the specialist added, his tone laced with mixed emotions.
Roxanne’s heart was in turmoil. Frowning, she interrupted, “I’m sorry. I’m quite tired and wish for some peace.”
The specialist, realizing he had overstepped, fell silent. His words echoed in her ears. Lucian had stayed by her side. While unconscious, she felt as if someone had spoken to her. Was it Lucian? Curiosity piqued her. I wonder what he said?
Meanwhile, Lucian and the three children waited outside the ward. He leaned against the door, observing through the window. He saw Roxanne speaking, her expression shifting. Unexpectedly, she glanced towards the door. Lucian instinctively lowered his gaze. The children pressed against the door, eager to know what was happening.
“Mr. Farwell, how is Mommy?” Benny asked, tugging at Lucian’s shirt. Archie and Estella joined him, their faces pleading.
Lucian, roused by Benny’s voice, patted the boy’s head. “The doctors are checking her. She seems fine.”
Despite earlier restraint, their eyes were red-rimmed. Their worried expressions softened into smiles upon hearing his reassurance.
Suddenly remembering something, Lucian looked at Estella. Earlier, she had followed Archie and Benny in calling Roxanne “Mommy,” deeply shocking him. At the time, he’d been too focused on Roxanne’s condition to dwell on it. Now, with her awake, his curiosity about Estella’s feelings intensified.
