Chapter 1213

Roxanne was adept at maintaining distance. Even if she learned what transpired that night, she would likely assume Lucian had merely intervened to stop Jack. Lucian was certain of this.

Jack paled. "I just want to see her. And there's something I need to ask her," he said, eager to learn more about the situation.

However, as if reading his mind, Lucian stated, "We three are the only ones here. There's no need for theatrics, Mr. Damaris."

Jack frowned, confused. "What are you talking about?"

"My men have investigated. Only three people were involved in the experiment at the institute," Lucian said coldly. "The other person has worked with Roxanne for years. I doubt he'd do anything so reckless. Therefore, you're the only remaining suspect."

Jack was stunned. He never imagined anyone would suspect him, especially considering his worry for Roxanne all day.

"Mr. Farwell, this project is spearheaded by the Damaris family. Why would I sabotage it?" Jack asked, finding Lucian's suspicion absurd.

Lucian furrowed his brows. He'd considered this already. Jack didn't seem to have the motive. Yet, he still arrived at the same conclusion: only three people were involved in the experiment, and Jack was the only possible culprit.

When Jack realized Lucian remained suspicious, he said icily, "Where's your evidence? People will laugh if they hear you've jumped to conclusions!"

"I will find the evidence," Lucian promised, the air growing colder.

Jack took several deep breaths to compose himself. "Well, until you do, move aside, Mr. Farwell. I have a right to visit my business partner!"

Lucian remained firm. "Likewise. Until you prove your innocence, you won't see her."

Jack's fury boiled over. He was done with Lucian's suspicions and felt a surge of aggression. Lucian scowled in response.

Within seconds, both men were tense, poised for conflict. Cayden, standing nearby, was equally uneasy, prepared to intervene.

Lost in the escalating tension, neither man noticed the elevator doors opening. Jonathan emerged with the three children.

"Lucian..." Jonathan began, about to report his completed task, but stopped, astonished by the charged atmosphere. Even the children were momentarily startled, but quickly recovered. Estella ran to her father, arms outstretched protectively.

"Don't bully Daddy!"

Cayden and Jonathan exchanged surprised glances.

Even Jack was taken aback.

"Mr. Damaris, are you here to see Mommy?" Archie's soft voice broke through the tension.

Jack's anger subsided as he looked at Archie. "It's late. Mommy's probably resting. Mr. Damaris, if you're worried, come again tomorrow," Archie said politely, effectively dismissing Jack.
