Chapter 1277

Sonya was stunned by Lucian's resolute refusal. The meaning of his words ignited her fury. "Your attitude is a blatant disregard for Aubree, who has waited six years! Instead, you're with a woman who abandoned her husband and daughter! Have you considered Essie's feelings? Have you thought about the Farwell family's reputation? If it gets out that the CEO married a woman with two children, how will others perceive us? And if they learn Roxanne is the mistress who left six years ago, what then?" She glared at her son. "I will never allow such a scandal!"

Lucian's eyes flashed with displeasure at his mother's insults toward Roxanne. Maintaining his composure, he retorted coldly, "I don't care."

Sonya's temples throbbed. "How can you say that? You're jeopardizing the Farwell family's reputation!"

Lucian raised an eyebrow. "So what if I am? I can handle it. Even if the family is affected, I can fix it." He decided against explaining further; her current state suggested she might faint if he did. He swept a chilling gaze over Aubree. I wonder what else she's told her.

Noticing his glance, Sonya shifted the focus back to Aubree. "Aubree only picked up Essie out of kindness. What did she do wrong? Her arm was injured, yet Roxanne showed her no mercy!" She wanted to grab Aubree's arm to show Lucian the injury, but restrained herself. "Have you forgotten how she was injured?"

A hint of impatience colored Lucian's voice. "I haven't forgotten."

Sonya started to continue, but he stopped her. "However, I'm still investigating. The cause of her injury needs verification. She may not have been injured saving you."

Lucian's scrutinizing gaze fell on Aubree again. Her heart clenched; she dug her nails into her palms to stifle her tears.

Sonya gaped incredulously. "How could it be fake? I saw it with my own eyes! Don't say that again!"

"Why can't it be fake? Can you guarantee every word she says is true?" Lucian countered impassively.

Both Sonya and Aubree's expressions changed. Sonya fell silent for a few seconds, her gaze flickering. She didn't fully trust Aubree and couldn't answer affirmatively. She forcefully changed the subject. "If you insist on breaking off the engagement, give me a reason I can accept! Otherwise, I'll never agree!"

Aubree, noticing the wavering in Sonya's voice, looked up, stunned. Tears streamed down her face, making her appear utterly pitiful.
