Chapter 1279
Lucian drove back to the Farwell residence in a foul mood. His mother's excessive trust in Aubree and her belittling of Roxanne angered him. Even upon arriving at the manor, his expression remained grim.
Roxanne's message arrived as he exited the car. The sight of her name softened his features. He opened the message: "The kids are clamoring to go to the amusement park. When are you free?"
Lucian sensed her reluctance. She'd likely only messaged him due to the children's insistence. Nevertheless, his mood improved considerably. He felt a playful impulse. He replied: "Does this count as you asking me out?"
Meanwhile, Roxanne was surrounded by Archie, Benny, and Estella. "Has Mr. Farwell said anything yet, Mommy?" "Is Mr. Farwell going to the amusement park with us?" Archie and Benny pleaded. Estella, perched on the couch, watched Roxanne's phone with curiosity.
Roxanne felt conflicted. The children's sudden desire to visit the amusement park, their insistence on Lucian's attendance, and their refusal to sleep until they received an answer left her with no option but to contact him. This was her first initiative since their last unpleasant encounter. Anxiety gnawed at her.
After an indeterminate wait, Lucian's reply arrived, causing the children's eyes to light up. They crowded around Roxanne, who opened the message. Upon seeing Lucian's reply, she blushed crimson and quickly locked her phone.
The children, disappointed at not seeing the message, pressed for an answer. "What did Mr. Farwell say, Mommy?" Benny asked. Roxanne offered a guilty smile. "It's nothing..." "Is Daddy going with us, then?" Estella inquired sweetly.
Roxanne, her blush deepening, considered Lucian's reply. "He... well, I'll ask him again," she said, then privately messaged him: "The kids had me ask you! Are you going or not?"
Lucian arched a brow and chuckled, sending a voice message: "If you're asking me out, I naturally won't decline."
Roxanne, seeing the voice message and noticing the children, felt a headache coming on. She transcribed the message into text and nodded at the children. "He said okay."
The children rejoiced. Roxanne, feigning calm, sent them upstairs to rest, then retreated to her room, staring at the voice message. She played it, Lucian's deep voice filling the room. After a single listen, she tossed her phone aside, her face burning. I've already told him it was the kids' request! How could he be so shameless?
