Chapter 1334
โAubree, I only noticed your missed calls now because I was in the shower. Whatโs up?โ Frieda sounded very concerned. It felt as if the engagement between the Farwells and the Pearsons had never been canceled; they were still on good terms.
Aubree knew Frieda called because of her message, but needing Friedaโs help, she played along. Coldly biting her lip, Aubree said, โNothing much. Since we haven't seen each other in a few days, I wanted to ask you out.โ
Frieda hesitated, but Aubreeโs veiled threat left her no choice but to agree. She wanted to follow Jonathanโs advice, but the Pearsons' downfall was too shocking to ignore. Frieda worried about her family if Aubree betrayed them.
After confirming their meeting place, they ended the call. Frieda changed and was about to leave when she bumped into Jonathan.
โWhere are you going?โ he asked suspiciously.
Frieda plastered on a smile. โNowhere. Iโve stayed home too long; I wanted a walk.โ
Jonathan remained unconvinced. โI donโt care if you stay home for a few more days! Look at those online comments. Stay away from Aubree if you donโt want our family to end up like hers!โ He stood still, staring coldly, blocking her path.
Feeling guilty and afraid to meet Aubree, Frieda meekly nodded and returned to her room. Nonetheless, anxiety won, and she called Aubree. โMy brother wonโt let me leave the houseโฆโ
โI bet he doesnโt want you to meet me because he has no idea what you did!โ Aubree retorted through gritted teeth.
Frieda nodded guiltily. โI canโt let him know. Otherwise, heโll kill me before Lucian does!โ
โSo youโre not afraid Lucian will find out?โ Aubree sneered.
After a momentโs silence, Frieda hastily reassured her. โI believe you, Aubree, and Iโll do my best to help. Howeverโโ
โDonโt worry. I wonโt tell Lucian even if the plan fails, but you have to be a part of it,โ Aubree interrupted, seemingly knowing Friedaโs concerns.
Relief washed over Frieda. โWhat do you need me to do?โ
Meanwhile, Aubree sat alone in a cafรฉ corner. Public opinion in Horington was overwhelmingly against her; it was hard to find anyone who didn't recognize her. Even the waiter gave her a dirty look. Aubree hardened her face, reminding herself of her predicament. โHow have things developed online?โ
After turning on her computer, Frieda hesitated. Roxanneโs true nature was nearing public knowledge. Everyone praised Roxanneโs beauty and kindness, deeming her a perfect match for Lucian. Aubree, once idolized, was now a laughingstock. Some even claimed her story about being Lucianโs first crush was fabricated.
Silence on the other end of the line sent Aubreeโs heart plummeting. โWhatโs going on?โ
