Chapter 1344
Upon seeing the unfolding scene, Estella knew she couldn't help and went to call her mother instead. When Roxanne regained her senses and turned to the sea, she saw the boys approaching the ocean. Benny was frowning, looking lost and distraught.
"Archie! Benny!" Furrowing her brow, she ran after them. She wouldn't have panicked in a different location, as the boys knew how to swim. However, she'd tripped there two days prior, and knew hidden rocks lurked beneath the water's surface. Her worry was unavoidable. Estella followed close behind.
Just then, a large wave crashed toward the boys. Roxanne's heart leaped into her throat. She sprinted, reaching them just in time. The three were drenched, but Estella, being further back, remained dry.
When Benny returned to reality, he hung his head guiltily, avoiding Roxanne's gaze. Roxanne deposited the boys on the beach. With a smooth movement, Benny sat and flashed a charming smile at his mother. To an outsider, it might have looked like playful antics.
Lowering his head, Archie apologized, "I'm sorry for not watching Benny closely, Mommy." Roxanne glanced at the sensible Archie before turning to Benny, who continued his pitiful charade. Fury simmered within her, but she couldn't bring herself to be angry. "Didn't I tell you two to stay away from the sea?" she sighed resignedly. "This is just great. I didn't bring any extra clothes. I thought we'd just be on the beach deck. Getting soaked was certainly unexpected. If my clothes weren't wet, I could have bought new ones. Now I can't."
Just then, Estella called out, "Daddy!"
Roxanne assumed the girl wanted her to summon Lucian, so she said, "Daddy's still working. He's busy." Besides, she didn't want him to know she'd secretly brought the children to the beach so soon after his visit.
"Daddy!" Estella abruptly sprinted past her.
Only then did Roxanne realize Lucian had arrived. The boys looked up at him. After patting Estella's head, he scooped her into his arms, approached Roxanne, and asked resentfully, "Why did you bring the children here alone?"
Roxanne felt a pang of guilt as their eyes met. "I thought you were busy working todayโฆ" It was also because she needed time to compose herself after rejecting his proposal the previous night.
He didn't give her a chance to speak. "As busy as I am, I still have time for you all." He examined her and the boys, noting their wet clothes, before speaking meaningfully, "Besides, I can't help but worry when you bring the children to the beach."
Roxanne blushed, remembering their kiss after her fall that day.
"Mommy's a great swimmer!" Benny defended. "She even went diving on our last vacation!"
As he finished, his father chuckled inexplicably. Roxanne's face flushed even deeper. Seeing their parents' behavior, the children surmised something had happened, likely involving their father's teasing of their mother.
