Chapter 1367

I have never needed to inform Lucian about impending business trips, but things are different now. Knowing how much he dislikes Jack, I should inform him that this trip is with Jack. I have gotten so used to leaving whenever work arises over the past six years that I would have forgotten if not for Benny's reminder.

Benny watched his mother's expression soften and knew his timely words had worked. Although his face glistened with anticipation, he silently urged his father to hurry.

Roxanne fell silent for a long while before retrieving her phone to call Lucian. Just as she located his number, a horn sounded outside the mansion. Somehow knowing who it was, Roxanne pocketed her phone and walked to the entrance with her suitcase.

She saw Lucian's Bentley at the door. Clad in a smoky gray vest, sleeves rolled halfway up, he emerged and strode toward her.

"What are you doing here?"

Roxanne felt a strange premonition as he approached. Lucian frowned at her luggage. "What about you? Where are you going?"

Roxanne followed his gaze and felt a twinge of guilt about her business trip with Jack. Unwilling to discuss it in the children's presence, she said carefully, "I'm going to Jadeborough for a business trip. I was about to tell you when you arrived."

As soon as the words left her mouth, Lucian took her luggage. Roxanne frowned. "What are you doing?"

He placed her suitcase in the car while she followed suspiciously. Benny breathed a secret sigh of relief at his father's arrival. He grimaced at his mother's back before turning to Linda.

"We're going to be late, Ms. Linda. We need to leave for kindergarten!"

Linda glanced at the time and, with a start, bid Roxanne farewell before ushering the children into the car. Suddenly, Roxanne and Lucian were alone at the mansion entrance.

She remained uneasy even after he placed her suitcase in his car. "I'm running late. Let's talk when I get there."

Meeting her eyes, Lucian grabbed her wrist and guided her to the passenger seat. Too surprised to resist, Roxanne found herself seated, then watched as he joined her.

"Just as well. I, too, am going to Jadeborough on business. Since we're heading the same way, let's travel together," Lucian said calmly, starting the car before she could object.

Soon, Lucian drove away from the mansion. Roxanne, in the passenger seat, pondered Lucian's words. What a coincidence! Lucian had never mentioned going to Jadeborough. In fact, even he hadn't known he would be going.

Observing his profile, Roxanne detected no deception in his relaxed concentration. Her suspicion dissipated as quickly as it arose. Why would Lucian lie? This wasn't something worth lying about!
