Chapter 1380

โ€œI just thought you werenโ€™t dressed warmly enough,โ€ Roxanne explained, attempting to clarify Lucianโ€™s earlier misunderstanding. โ€œArenโ€™t you cold in just a T-shirt?โ€

Lucian turned, gazed at Roxanneโ€”bundled in his shirt and holding his handโ€”and said, โ€œI wonโ€™t be cold if we stick together.โ€

They walked hand-in-hand, their intimacy evident. After several turns, they reached a small, dark alley.

Roxanne looked confused. โ€œIs this the place you mentioned?โ€

Lucian nodded. โ€œItโ€™s probably closed. Letโ€™s eat somewhere else. What would you like?โ€

Roxanne, very hungry, mentally considered numerous options. Finally, she said, โ€œLetโ€™s have crawfish. I havenโ€™t had them in a long time. Iโ€™m craving them.โ€

She paused, realizing most upscale restaurants would be closed. Street food stalls were the only option, and she wasn't sure Lucian would appreciate the setting.

Noticing her hesitation, Lucian took her hand and guided her toward the street food stalls. Roxanne breathed a sigh of relief and followed.

Concerned about Lucianโ€™s preference for less crowded environments, she initially planned to choose a less busy stall. However, drawn to the liveliest one, she assumed the popularity indicated quality.

Only after they were seated did Roxanne realize her mistake. Lucian looked somewhat gloomy.

โ€œIโ€™m sorry,โ€ she apologized. โ€œYou donโ€™t like noisy, crowded places, do you? Should we get the food and take it back to the hotel?โ€

His frown softened as he saw her enjoyment. Relieved by his apparent acceptance, Roxanne continued chatting to distract him until their food arrived.

Only then did she fall silent, beginning to shell the crawfish. After shelling one, she hesitated before placing it on Lucianโ€™s plate, a silent apology for bringing him there. She waited for him to eat it before shelling another for herself.

Midway through the meal, Roxanne noticed something peculiar. Her plate seemed perpetually full. Looking at Lucian, she saw his plate was empty. He had been discreetly replenishing hers.

He paused when she stared, confused. โ€œWhatโ€™s wrong? Doesnโ€™t it taste good?โ€

Roxanne shook her head, beginning to speak when someone bumped into her, causing her to yelp in surprise.

โ€œWhat theโ€ฆ Hey! Didnโ€™t you see us?โ€

Slurred speech and the strong smell of alcohol followed. Roxanne frowned, realizing they had encountered some intoxicated troublemakers.
