Chapter 1389

Just then, Jack's muffled voice reached Roxanne. "Ms. Jarvis, are you alright?"

Roxanne blinked hard, trying to clear her head, but to no avail. She couldn't respond, only managing to hold his gaze.

Jack, also quite intoxicated, recognized Roxanne's condition and decided it was time to leave Terence and the family. "It's late. We should go rest. We'll return to the nursing home tomorrow to continue treatments."

The others readily agreed, offering their thanks before escorting Roxanne and Jack out.

Supporting Roxanne, who was heavily intoxicated, proved challenging. Jack even tried to hold her close for easier walking, but despite her inebriation, she subconsciously avoided his touch, stumbling along the street. This frustrated him.

Roxanne's been avoiding me since this morning's consultationโ€ฆIs it because of Lucian? How far have they gone? he thought angrily.

Roxanne groaned, nearly striking her head against a wall. Jack steadied himself, intending to support her, but before he could reach her, a figure appeared. A large hand pulled Roxanne into a tight embrace.

"Let her go!" Jack shouted, his brow furrowed. His expression darkened upon seeing who it was.

Lucian, holding Roxanne close, fixed Jack with a cold stare. "I believe I should be saying that, Mr. Damaris. What were you about to do to my woman?"

Having finished his branch office business, Lucian had returned to the hotel. Concerned by Roxanne's absence and unanswered calls, he'd rushed to the nursing home, only to learn she was out to dinner with Jack. Finding them intoxicated, with Jack seemingly making a move on Roxanne, shocked him. The more he considered it, the angrier he became.

Jack, unprepared for Lucian's arrival, felt the weight of his questioning. "What brings you here, Mr. Farwell?" he asked cautiously, though numerous other questions filled his mind. He wondered about Lucian's presence in Jadeborough with Roxanne, the nature of their relationship, and how Lucian learned of the dinner. He held back, however, fearing his questions would reveal his intentions too clearly.

"Is it me, or do you simply not want me here, Mr. Damaris?" Lucian retorted coldly, raising an eyebrow. "Have you not given up on my woman? What would you have done if I hadn't arrived?"

Jack couldn't tear his gaze from the couple. The woman who'd avoided his touch was now nestled contentedly against Lucian's chest. His annoyance was evident in his tone.

"You seem hostile, Mr. Farwell. This happened before. You suspected me of plotting against Ms. Jarvis without evidence."
