Chapter 1391
Meanwhile, Lucian arrived downstairs and carried Roxanne to the car. She slept soundly, undisturbed. After covering her with a jacket and fastening her seatbelt, he drove slowly back to the hotel, careful not to wake her.
By the time they reached the hotel, it was past nine. Lucian parked and softly called, "Roxanne?"
She stirred, scrunching her eyebrows and pulling the jacket tighter around her. Lucian couldn't resist stroking her hair before quietly lifting her from the car seat.
The night air was cool, but Roxanne instinctively nestled against him. He held her closer, quickening his pace but maintaining a steady gait. Their arrival drew surprised and envious glances from the hotel lobby, but Lucian ignored them, heading directly to his room, bypassing Roxanne's.
Just as he was about to lay her on the bed, Roxanne clung to his shirt. He bent down, gently coaxing, "Be good and let go. I won't leave. It'll be uncomfortable sleeping like this." He carefully loosened her grip.
She furrowed her brows again and released him. Lucian chuckled at her expression, tucking her in and caressing her head.
The alcohol's effects soon manifested; Roxanne frowned, whimpered, and displayed discomfort. Lucian immediately poured her water and called the front desk for hangover pills. He attempted to give her the pill, but she wouldn't swallow it. He tried offering it with water, but she refused to open her mouth.
"Roxanne, be a good girl. Open your mouth and take your medicine," he said, gently pinching her cheeks.
She turned away, pouting and burying herself in the blanket, her furrowed brow expressing clear unwillingness. "No, I can't drink anymore. I'm seriousโฆ" she mumbled, shaking her head. She seemed to believe someone was trying to force more alcohol on her.
Lucian felt a mixture of sympathy and amusement. The water in his hand grew cold. Narrowing his eyes, he took a sip.
In her stupor, Roxanne felt her blanket being pulled away. She reached for it, but Lucian captured her chin. He forced her mouth open, and she felt the warmth of his lips on hers as he delivered the water. Initially resisting, she relaxed as her parched throat was quenched.
Lucian's gaze darkened, sensing her cooperation. He'd intended to stop after giving her the water, but he couldn't resist clasping her chin again and lingering over her lips. Only when she ran out of breath and struggled did he finally release her.
