Chapter 1393

The next morning, Lucian awoke first. Roxanne, having drunk heavily the previous night, slept soundly in his arms. Lowering his head, he saw her adorable face; her breath soft and even, her long lashes quivering slightly. His gaze fell to the marks he'd left on her body, instantly bringing back memories of the night before. His breath caught in his chest as he tightened his embrace, showering her forehead, eyes, and neck with feather-light kisses.

Feeling a tickle on her face, Roxanne stirred. Opening her eyes, she saw Lucian's handsome features close to hers, his breath warm on her skin. He held her waist, his touch burning. She froze, then realization struck. Like startled prey, she shoved him away, sitting bolt upright, clutching the blanket. The soreness in her waist made her flinch, but she gritted her teeth, suppressing a cry.

"You..." she gasped, eyes wide with panic. "What happened? Why are we like this?"

Lucian frowned at her sudden rejection. "You don't remember?"

Roxanne was tense. His question startled her further. "What do you mean?"

Though she resisted the truth, the soreness and the marks were undeniable evidence. Last nightโ€ฆ However, she only remembered being pressured to drink heavily at the restaurant and being helped out by Jack. Her memory of what followed, including Lucian's arrival, was hazy. She had no recollection of events after they reached the hotel. So what really happened last night? Judging from Lucian's tone, it sounds like I was the one who took the initiativeโ€ฆ Oh noโ€ฆ Her anxiety grew. Seeing his confused expression, guilt flooded her eyes.

"You were drunk last night. I brought you back and gave you hangover medicine," Lucian said, rubbing his temple as he sat up, recounting the events. "When I came out of the bathroom after showering, you suddenly approached me. I warned you, butโ€ฆ"

He'd only been wearing a towel, and red marks covered his exposed torso. He glanced at Roxanne; further explanation was unnecessary. She already guessed what followed. He warned me, but I wouldn't stop clinging to him. Remembering this, Roxanne blushed, averting her gaze. That's true. There's no way Lucian would take advantage of me while I was drunk. But why did I act that way?

Lucian's eyes darkened at the sight of her reddened face. "I anticipated this reaction, so I tried to stop you. But you wouldn't listen."

Roxanne turned to defend herself, but the marks on Lucian's chest served as a stark reminder of her passionate behavior. Speechless, she flushed crimson, clutching the blanket in despair, overwhelmed with the urge to hide. What was with me last night? Why was I soโ€ฆ
