Chapter 140: Patience Is Required

On the way home from Roxanne's house, Sonya decided to call Aubree.

Aubree was surprised by the early morning call.

"Aubree, I've spoken to Lucian, and he won't cancel his engagement," Sonya said. Although Sonya had initiated the conversation, she presented the decision as if it were Lucian's alone.

Aubree was overjoyed. "Is it true, Mrs. Farwell?" she asked. Then, she added, "But what about Roxanne? She's very close to Lucian, and Essie likes her too."

Sonya's tone hardened at the mention of Roxanne. "Ignore her. Only you can be Lucian's wife. Be patient with Essie; she's just a child. I'll let this slide, but don't let it happen again!"

Aubree readily agreed. "Mrs. Farwell, I'll treat Essie like my own daughter."

However, she remained concerned about Estella staying with Roxanne. "By the way, has Essie come home yet? I want to apologize to her."

Sonya replied flatly, "Not yet. I wanted to bring her home, but she hasn't fully recovered. She wants to stay with Roxanne, and it's beneficial for her recovery. I'll bring her back when she's better."

An icy glint flashed in Aubree's eyes. That despicable child is still with Roxanne! she thought. Roxanne was the reason Lucian didn't want to marry me, and now, with Essie growing closer to Roxanne, she might become the reason he remarries her!

Aubree's anxiety grew, but she maintained a calm tone. "I understand, Mrs. Farwell. Essie's well-being is most important."

Sonya, hearing Aubree's reassuring words, said solemnly, "Aubree, you must be patient. Do you understand?"

"Yes, Mrs. Farwell. Don't worry," Aubree replied calmly.

Sonya nodded. "Soon, I'll invite your parents to finalize the marriage. Don't be anxious; it won't help."

Reassured, Aubree smiled.

That evening, Roxanne arrived promptly at the kindergarten to collect the children. Lucian was already there. She expected him to stay for dinner, as he had the previous day, but he left immediately after dropping them off, saying he was busy.

At home, Catalina's dinner awaited. After eating, Roxanne played with the children before putting them to bed.

After tucking Archie and Benny in, Roxanne went to her room, where Catalina had just bathed Estella. In her bunny pajamas, Estella looked like a stuffed toy, sitting on the bed, waiting for Roxanne.

Seeing Roxanne, Estella smiled and reached out for a hug.

Roxanne picked Estella up, and the little girl hugged her neck. As Estella rested her head against Roxanne's, Roxanne felt her heart melt.
