Chapter 1402
Roxanne interrupted the old woman, sensing Lucianโs discomfort. โIโm just checking on everyone. Since youโre all fine, Iโll go home now. Iโll visit again if I have time.โ
The residents, having learned she lived in Horington, urged the couple to leave immediately to avoid night driving.
Even after leaving the nursing home, Roxanne felt uneasy; Lucian remained visibly disturbed by the old woman's words. Resignedly, she comforted him, โDonโt worry about her, Lucian. Thereโs nothing between Mr. Damaris and me.โ
He glanced at her. โDo you speak to him often?โ
โOnly about medical matters,โ Roxanne explained seriously. โI know Jack only through our profession. Beyond that, we have nothing to discuss, so I definitely don't have feelings for him.โ
Lucianโs expression softened.
Back in the car, Roxanne kept the box on her lap unopened. โWhy arenโt you opening it? Donโt you like it?โ Lucian asked, glancing at her through the rearview mirror as he started the engine.
Shaking her head, she replied, โIโll open it when we get home.โ She was too embarrassed to open his gift in front of him, especially not knowing what it was.
Disappointment flickered across his face, but he didn't press her.
By the time they reached Horington, darkness had fallen. Lucian drove Roxanne directly to the mansion. The children were playing with Linda in the living room. Hearing the car, they rushed to the entrance.
โMommy! Daddy!โ Estella immediately clung to Roxanneโs leg.
Grinning, Roxanne patted her head. โDid you miss me?โ
Estella nodded enthusiastically. โI missed you a lot! Aunt Linda said she was going to video call you just now.โ
The boys stood behind their sister, shyly observing their parents. Since their sister had claimed their mother, they cautiously approached their father. They werenโt comfortable with such direct affection, so they simply stared at him.
Lucian, seemingly sensing their hesitation, grinned and walked towards them. โYour mommy bought lots of gifts for you both. Come help me unload them from the car.โ He patted their heads before heading to the trunk.
The boys were thrilled just to receive a pat from their father, and the sight of a trunk full of gifts sent them into a state of pure delight. They eagerly helped him unload the presents, acting like little porters as they carried the bags into the mansion.
Roxanne watched, amused by their enthusiasm.
