Chapter 1465

Roxanneโ€™s heart pounded as she sped to the hospital, pushing the accelerator to the limit. Archie and Benny might be independent, but this was the first time one of them had been hurt. Anxiety washed over her.

She parked hastily and rushed inside. Pippa had thoughtfully texted the ward number after Benny's admission, so Roxanne found them easily.

"Mommy!"

Archie gripped her hand fiercely, causing pain. Estella clutched her shirt. Roxanne patted their heads before turning to Pippa. "Ms. Ward, what happened?"

Pippa replied apologetically, "We're not sure. The infirmary doctor thinks it might be a bruised cartilage. Benny's having an X-ray."

A sharp pain pierced Roxanne's heart.

Jeffrey apologized profusely, "Ms. Jarvis, we're so sorry. It was our fault. We didn't take good care of him. We hoped sports day would strengthen their bond, but we never anticipated this. We promise the children won't participate in risky activities again."

Roxanne looked at the children for confirmation. Estellaโ€™s eyes were red; she was too distraught to speak. Archie, however, remained calm. He nodded and explained, "It was a hopping game. Benny was behind us. He just stumbled and fell."

Reassured, Roxanne turned to Jeffrey. "You don't need to blame yourselves. Children get bumps and bruises. As long as he's not seriously hurt, everything will be fine."

Just then, the doctor emerged with Benny. Seeing Roxanne, Benny, who had only recently stopped crying, burst into tears and threw himself into her arms. "Mommy, it hurts!" he sobbed.

Roxanne examined his arm. A long scrape ran from his wrist to his palm; his hand was already swelling. His wrist was stiffโ€”pain, or something else? Feeling compassion, she hugged him. "Don't be afraid. I'm here. Be a good boy."

She then turned to the doctor. "How is he? Can I see the X-ray?"

The doctor complied, explaining, "It's a soft tissue injury. Children don't tolerate pain well, so he'll likely be uncomfortable for a while."

Roxanne studied the X-ray, furrowing her brow. It was a serious injury, suggesting a sudden fall. As a doctor herself, she'd taught Archie and Benny safety precautions from a young age. Unless it was completely unexpected, Benny shouldn't have forgotten. Suspicion flickered in her eyes.

"I'd recommend a few days observation. If he recovers well, he can be discharged," the doctor added.

"I don't want to stay!" Benny wailed.

Roxanne patted his head. "No need. I'm a doctor; I can care for him myself. Thank you."
