Chapter 1466

After receiving the doctor's permission, Roxanne brought the children home. Meanwhile, Elias and Sonya waited outside the kindergarten after school, but Estella was nowhere to be seen. Most of the children had been picked up, yet their granddaughter remained absent.

They wanted to ask the teacher for information, but realized they rarely collected Estella themselves and didn't even know her class.

"There's no sign of Essie," Sonya grumbled. "I thought he said we could pick her up."

Elias grimaced and immediately called Lucian. "Did you speak to Roxanne? We're at the kindergarten, but Essie's not here."

Lucian was surprised. "Let me call Roxanne. She agreed yesterday, so something must have come up."

Lucian called Roxanne after speaking with Elias. She was treating Benny's wound and took a moment to answer.

"Where's Essie?" Lucian asked. "Did something happen?"

Roxanne then remembered Elias and Sonya were to collect Estella. Looking down at the girl, she apologized to Lucian. "Something came up, so I picked Essie up. Please ask your parents if they mind collecting her from my place. I can't leave right now."

Estella's worried expression deepened. Roxanne patted her head reassuringly.

Lucian frowned. "What happened?"

Roxanne's weariness crept into her voice. "Benny was hurt this afternoon, and Archie and Essie went to the hospital with him. I wasn't thinking clearly and brought Essie back too."

Lucian's expression became solemn. "Is it serious? Do you need me there?"

Roxanne's heart softened, but she chuckled. "No, it's fine. I'm a doctor, I can treat him. Just ask your parents. If they want to come, I'll be waiting."

Lucian, though worried, didn't press further. He called his father to explain.

Elias offered no protest upon hearing about Benny's injury. "She must be very busy. Let's not disturb her. We'll go another day."

Lucian thanked his father on Roxanne's and the children's behalf.

Sonya was agitated. "How coincidental! She must have done this on purpose. She's lying; she doesn't want us to take Essie. She probably wants to marry into the Farwell family as Essie's mother!"

After hanging up, Elias looked at his wife exasperatedly. "We'll see if the boy's injured. Why would she make up such a flimsy lie?"

"Who knows? You're not even going to her place! You're on her side!" Sonya turned away angrily.
