Chapter 1473
Due to Benny's injury, the three children didn't attend kindergarten. Consequently, Ophelia couldn't act. Aubree received repeated disappointing updates from Ophelia. Exasperated, Aubree again sought Ophelia out.
"Aubree, there's nothing I can do," Ophelia said helplessly. "Who would have expected that woman to keep the other two children home after that little boy was hurt!"
Ophelia had hoped to target Archie and Estella while Benny recovered. To her surprise, she learned all three children had applied for leave the following day. Aubree clenched her fists. "That woman!" she hissed, hatred blazing in her eyes. Both women were stymied.
Ophelia, though vexed, watched Aubree carefully, fearing she might lose her patience. After a pause, Aubree said, "You should resign."
Ophelia's brows furrowed. "Be patient, Aubree. They'll return to school eventually. I'll have my chance then." She feared Aubree was giving up, jeopardizing the position at Pearson Group.
Aubree merely glanced at her impatiently. "I suspect they're starting to mistrust you. If you stay, they might discover our plan. It's too risky."
Ophelia visibly relaxed but remained cautious. "Then what should Iโ"
"I have a plan," Aubree interrupted. "Resign and lie low. I'll contact you later." Ophelia agreed.
Returning to the kindergarten, Ophelia discussed her resignation with Jeffrey. He was puzzled by her sudden departure after only a few days. "Is it the pay or benefits? Please tell me. You know how crucial your class is; we desperately need staff."
Ophelia looked troubled. "That's precisely why I'm resigning."
He frowned. "What do you mean?"
"You said it yourself," Ophelia replied. "Those children are the Farwells'. After one child was hurt, I'm terrified. I doubt my ability to care for them, and I fear the Farwells' wrath if another child is injured."
In short, Ophelia was too timid. Despite Jeffrey's attempts to persuade her, she remained firm. He reluctantly accepted her resignation.
Ophelia checked into a hotel, using money Aubree had given her, while awaiting contact. Aubree had mentioned a plan but offered no details.
Aubree returned to the dilapidated suburban mansion. Disdain filled her eyes. "I will regain my former life! Anyone who wants this hellhole can have it! Roxanne, you bitch, I'll never forgive you! Since you protect those children so well, I'll target you instead. You will regret taking what's mine!"
A vicious look crossed Aubree's face. "Just you wait, Roxanne! You'll suffer as I have. You'll pay dearly for what you've done!"
