Chapter 1497
Catalina instinctively assumed they were fighting again and tried to mediate. โMrs. Farwell, Mr. Farwell truly cares for you. He may have lost his composure out of worry, perhaps saying something wrong or behaving poorly. Please don't be angry with himโฆโ
Roxanne understood the misunderstanding but lacked time to explain. โI understand. I'll call him now, don't worry,โ she replied, quickly ending the call and dialing Lucian. Just as she was about to connect, she paused.
Glancing at her three children, she said, โIโm going out for a while. Be good, okay? Get to bed early.โ
The children, having overheard, Benny asked, โMommy, are you going to see Mr. Farwell?โ
Roxanne didn't hide it. Nodding, she said, โTake care of Essie. Don't open the door for anyone, and don't sneak out!โ
They nodded obediently. โDonโt worry, Mommy, go see Mr. Farwell. Weโll be good!โ
Only then did Roxanne feel comfortable leaving. She hoped to receive clear answers from Lucian in person.
At the Farwell residence, Catalina anxiously watched upstairs, wondering about Roxanne and Lucian's conversation and fearing another argument, as Lucian hadn't yet descended.
Then, the doorbell rang. Turning, Catalina saw Roxanne, looking anxious at the gate. Quickly opening the gate and door, Catalina waited.
โMrs. Farwell, itโs late. Why did you come in person?โ Catalina asked, concerned.
Roxanne nodded. โI need to talk to Lucian. Where is he?โ
Catalina pointed upward. โMr. Farwell has been in his study since he returned. He hasn't come out.โ
Roxanne immediately started toward the stairs, then paused, remembering Catalina's earlier words. โIโll go up first. Please heat up the dishes and serve them to him soon.โ
Catalina sighed in relief and hurried to obey.
Roxanne continued upstairs. Lucian stood by the tall study window, jaw tight, temples throbbing with unshed anger.
I canโt believe someoneโs trying to hurt Roxanne and the kids right under my nose! If I hadnโt noticed in timeโฆ Iโd have lost her again.
The thought of losing her tightened his chest. As he struggled to regain control, a knock came.
โIโm not hungry, leave me alone,โ he snapped.
The knocking ceased. Then, Roxanne's voice. โItโs me.โ
Lucian frowned, catching his own scowl in the window. His movement toward the door faltered.
Roxanneโs voice continued. โDid I arrive too abruptly? Butโฆ I canโt be at ease. If youโre not free, thenโโ
The study door opened mid-sentence. Before she could react, Roxanne was in his arms.
