Chapter 1504

Although Aubree didn't directly admit it, her apology implicitly confirmed she'd instigated Ophelia's actions.

Utterly disappointed, Sonya said flatly, โ€œHow could I have trusted someone as heartless as you all these years?โ€

Hearing the indifference in Sonya's voice, Aubree quickly explained, โ€œI swear thatโ€™s the only thing I lied about, and it was because I was madly in love with Lucian! You understand, don't you? I promise I'll never do it again.โ€

Sonya was infuriated. โ€œThatโ€™s the only thing you lied about? You don't think that's enough, do you? You nearly killed my granddaughter!โ€

Even over the phone, a shiver ran down Aubree's spine. She sobbed harder. โ€œI was wrong! I'll even apologize to Essie if you want. Please forgive me! You said youโ€™d only acknowledge me as your daughter-in-law. I won't marry Lucian anymore, so please ask him to show me mercy.โ€

Sonya, already fuming over Aubree's deception, was livid at her mention of past promises. โ€œGet over here and apologize to Essie, then!โ€

Aubree fell silent. Get on my hands and knees before that child and apologize? How can I? Besides, wouldn't Lucian find out if she returned? Where would she run then?

The silence sharpened Sonya's tone. โ€œI'm giving you one last chance. Come back and explain everything. If you lack the courage to meet me, there's nothing left to say.โ€

Aubree ended the call without a word.

Frieda, who'd been watching, felt uneasy. โ€œWhat happened, Aubree?โ€ she asked. Ideally, Aubree would leave the country. If Sonya helps her, my plan fails.

Aubree clutched her phone, her hand shaking. โ€œThat old hag! Sheโ€™s in cahoots with that bitch! She wants me to go back. Does she think Iโ€™m a fool?โ€ Gritting her teeth, she turned to Frieda. โ€œYou mentioned going abroad. How?โ€

Frieda, still troubled, replied, โ€œI can get the money, but leaving now will be difficult without the Farwells finding out.โ€

Aubree slumped against the wall, defeated. โ€œI'm done forโ€ฆโ€

Frieda, anxious, urged, โ€œThe Pearsons had many influential friends. Is there no one who could help? Think again.โ€

โ€œLet me thinkโ€ฆโ€ Aubree mumbled.

Back at the Farwell residence, Sonya remained shaken. Only now do I see Aubree's true colors. โ€œHow could I have been so blind? How could I have trusted someone like that?โ€ She shook her head. I even thought she'd change after her family's troubles and be suitable for my son. I've fallen for her trickery twice!

Lucian, anticipating her response, simply asked, โ€œHow did it go? Will she meet you?โ€
