Chapter 1529: A Meager Amount of Money
Roxanne, touched by Elias's kindness, remained guarded, wary of losing her composure.
"Didn't you sleep well last night? You look pale," Elias inquired with concern.
Roxanne stiffened, remembering the previous night's events. "I'm still adjusting to being back. I didn't sleep well, and work's been demanding. I'll be fine in a couple of days."
Elias nodded. "Work is important, but your health matters more, Young Lady." He then addressed Estella, Benny, and Archie. "Come eat. Stop playing."
The children obediently replied, "Okay, Grandpa!"
Elias beamed, delighted by the term of endearment. Despite Sonya's constant complaints, he found Archie and Benny endearing.
Roxanne breathed a sigh of relief, witnessing Elias's affection for the children.
Then, Sonya descended the stairs, her glare sharp. "Who said you could call him Grandpa?"
Roxanne, Archie, and Benny's faces fell. Sonya ignored them, approaching Elias.
"You should set boundaries, no matter how fond you are of them. 'Grandpa Farwell' is acceptable. But letting them call you 'Grandpa'? Only Essie is entitled to that. We have only one granddaughter."
Her displeasure was clear; however, Roxanne understood the reprimand was aimed at Archie and Benny. She wanted to object, seeing their disappointment, but remembering her reason for staying, she merely pulled them close.
Elias defended the children. "They're young. You're being too harsh. It's just a form of address. They can call me whatever they want."
Sonya stared in disbelief. "What do you mean, 'just a form of address'? You know what this implies!"
Elias ended the discussion, sitting at the table. "The food's getting cold. Let's eat."
Sonya, scowling, sat beside him, swallowing her frustration. Noticing Roxanne, Archie, and Benny across from her, she muttered, "Why are we treating them like family? They'll fight over our inheritance."
Her outburst during the meal revealed her underlying anger.
Roxanne intervened. "Rest assured, Mrs. Farwell, we won't spend a cent of the Farwell money. I can transfer any funds to you now, if you wish."
Sonya felt ridiculed. "Do we look like we care about such a meager amount of money?"
Roxanne met her gaze. "I know you're not petty. Treat us as guests. This isn't how you'd usually treat your guests."
