Chapter 1533: Lobbying

Roxanne was offended by his sudden touch, her smile fading. She lowered her eyes, stepping back to avoid his hand.

Jack frowned, sensing her discomfort. He quickly withdrew his hand, affecting nonchalance. "The research institute played a crucial role in the new medication's success. To celebrate, lunch is on me, and everyone receives a cash bonus this month!" His words implied a close relationship with the institute.

Roxanne felt he was overstepping, wanting to refuse. But the employees' cheers made it seem impolite to spoil their enthusiasm.

"Mr. Damaris is so generous!"

"Thank you, Mr. Damaris. We'll work even harder!"

The staff showered Jack with praise. Roxanne watched, slightly annoyed by their admiration.

"I hope everyone will join me. Let's carpool now, shall we?" Jack grinned, his enthusiasm unrestrained. He reached for Roxanne's arm. "Ms. Jarvis, if you don't mind, take my car!"

Roxanne sidestepped his hand, offering an awkward smile. "I think we should discuss our profit-sharing model first."

Jack raised an eyebrow, seemingly uninterested. "What's the rush? This isn't our first collaboration. Trust me, the institute will receive its due. Let's not talk business on such a happy occasion. Relax and enjoy a break!"

Several employees began to leave. Roxanne, unhappy, could only agree. "All right. I'll drive my car and pick up some others." She called a few non-driving staff and departed with them.

Jack watched Roxanne leave, then lowered his gaze, a grim expression settling on his face as he looked at his hand, twice rejected.

By noon, the group arrived at the hotel Jack had reserved.

"Mr. Damaris is so generous! He reserved the best hotel in Horington for our celebration," an employee commented happily.

Walking beside Roxanne, Jack heard the compliment. He smiled and waved dismissively. "You're all key contributors. Choosing the best was only fitting. Enjoy yourselves, and don't stand on ceremony."

He hosted a lavish feast on the top floor, complete with delicious food, wine, and soothing live music. Many staff were thrilled; it was their first time in such a luxurious setting.

Throughout the meal, people toasted Jack, then turned to Roxanne, offering toasts to her as well. She declined each one, claiming she wasn't feeling well.

"Enjoy yourselves! Today's celebration is the first of many. With each successful collaboration, our celebrations will grow grander!" Jack raised his glass.

Cheers erupted. Roxanne, though she should have been ecstatic about the medication's success, felt no joy watching Jack portray himself as the driving force behind it. He wasn't celebrating; he was courting everyone's favor. To outsiders, he seemed to be the head of the research institute.
