Chapter 1545: Just Like the First Time
After another round of discussions, they both decided to compromise further. Roxanne messaged Jack, offering a three-percent concession. If the Damaris Group found this unacceptable, the collaboration would be canceled. She waited, but received no reply.
It being noon, and with nothing pressing, Lucian took Roxanne to lunch. Perhaps to compensate for their last disappointing outing, he reserved a table at Horington's finest restaurant, specifically ordering a couple's set menu.
Upon arrival, they were seated by two staff members. A waitress approached shortly after. "Sir, I'm sorry, but we've run out of the drinks included in the couple's set. Would you like to choose alternatives or have a refund?"
Roxanne was surprised; she hadn't anticipated Lucian's seemingly childish gesture. He handed her the menu impassively. "Choose your own drinks. And feel free to order more food; I doubt the set menu will suffice."
Too shy to meet his gaze, Roxanne pretended to study the menu. The waitress remarked, "You two look well-suited. You must have a wonderful relationship." Lucian smiled; Roxanne blushed, keeping her head down.
The waitress's expression changed suddenly. "Oh my God, it's Mr. Farwell and his ex-wife! They were all over the internet. They're so much better-looking in person! Mr. Farwell is handsome when he smiles, and his ex-wife is so gentle. And they're ordering a couple's menu! If it weren't for Aubree Pearson, they wouldn't have divorced all those years ago."
Unaware of the waitress's thoughts, Roxanne smiled at her strange expression. The waitress, regaining her composure, turned, visibly awestruck. The ex-wife is so elegant and dazzling when she smiles! I can't believe someone so stunning exists!
Roxanne found the waitress's awkward departure slightly odd, but dismissed it, turning to Lucian. "Weren't we supposed to have a casual lunch? Whyโ"
Lucian's eyes shone with affection. "I wasn't sure where to go, but after checking Instagram, this place seemed popular with couples."
Roxanne was touched. Even though their children were grown, she was captivated by him, just as she had been when they first fell in love.
"We missed so much six years ago. I want to make it up to you," he said, his voice deep and sincere. "I promised to pursue you again, but my efforts were pathetic. Perhaps you rejected my proposal because of my inadequacy. All I can do now is try harder."
Roxanne's eyes sparkled. She felt a fleeting impulse to correct him, but realized the true reason for her rejection was obvious to them both. Understanding his attempt to excuse his past behavior, she remained silent.
