Chapter 1560: Unavoidable Responsibility

Roxanne allowed herself only a day's rest at home. The following day, Lucian urged her to stay, but she was reluctant. Just as she was about to relent, Linda called. "Dr. Jarvis, we've encountered problems with Damaris Group. We may need your help."

Linda's voice was serious, mirroring the darkening expression on Roxanne's face. "What happened?" Roxanne sensed Jack's impatience; she'd planned to give him the cold shoulder for a few more days before discussing profits. His patience had, however, worn thin far sooner than expected. She somehow knew what Linda would say.

"The medicinal herbs for our drugs have run out. Damaris Group refused our restock request," Linda explained, unaware of the rift between Roxanne and Jack. The refusal had stunned her, prompting the immediate call for help.

Roxanne's expression darkened further. "Are we completely out of herbs?"

"We have some, but only enough for small-scale production," Linda replied. "We're ready for mass production following product registration, but this quantity is insufficient. We've heavily invested in the production workshop; covering costs quickly isn't feasible. The herb shortage will severely impact production and cause significant losses." They needed the herbs immediately.

Roxanne's expression darkened again. After a moment, she said, "Understood. I'll handle it. Regarding registration, delay the process while I resolve this." Linda, unaware of the situation, followed instructions.

After the call, worry etched itself onto Roxanne's face. Her argument with Jack had created a serious problem demanding immediate attention. Time was of the essence.

Lucian, having overheard the call, spoke. "What's Jack up to now? It sounds like Damaris Group has stopped supplying the research institute with herbs."

Roxanne felt immediate relief at his voice. She explained the situation. "I'm afraid Damaris Group has reached its limit with us."

Lucian raised an eyebrow, embracing Roxanne comfortingly. "Jack wants the money, but more importantly, the patent. Patents are more valuable to Damaris Group than money."

Roxanne nodded. "But why do this to us? Doesn't he fear damaging Damaris Group's reputation?" The medicine's launch was highly anticipated; a delay would be damaging, contradicting their image of benevolent business practices.

Lucian's eyes narrowed. "That's just Jack. He's pressuring you. A delay will create negative publicity, reflecting poorly on the product and your institute."
