Chapter 1605: Interrogation
Lucian pulled his car into the driveway of the Farwell main residence. The butler quickly greeted him. "Mr. Farwell."
"Where's my mother?" Lucian asked, his tone icy.
"Mrs. Farwell has just finished dinner and is enjoying coffee in the living room," the butler replied.
Lucian nodded, gesturing for the butler not to follow. He found his mother seated on the couch, sipping coffee and watching television.
Sonya turned at the sound of approaching footsteps. A strange look crossed her eyes the moment she saw Lucian; she knew the boys must have complained to their father.
Lucian strode toward her, grabbed the remote, and switched off the television. Sonya's face darkened. "So, are you here to interrogate me?"
"Why did you leave Archie and Benny at the amusement park this afternoon?" Lucian asked impassively.
Frowning, Sonya retorted, "It's a safe place! No one can enter without a ticket, and there are plenty of staff. The boys and Essie have different interests. Do you expect me to clone myself?"
Lucian remained displeased. "You only say that because they returned safely."
Sonya stiffened, unable to reply.
Lucian stared at her sternly. "The children are so young. How could you leave them alone? Have you forgotten what happened when Essie went missing?"
"How are those two incidents comparable? Essie is a Farwell child. Who are those two?"
"They are Farwell children, too!" Lucian roared. "If something bad had happened, how could I explain it to Roxanne?"
Sonya scoffed. "Aren't they fine? I simply let them play at the amusement park. How was I to know they'd return alone?" She was clearly blaming the boys.
Lucian was incredulous. "What makes you think you're blameless? How is your action any different from those of human traffickers?"
Sonya grimaced. "How can you say that? I'm your mother!"
Their argument escalated. Hearing the commotion, Elias came downstairs. Upon learning his wife had left two young boys unsupervised at the amusement park, he was astonished.
"I know you dislike Roxanne, but you shouldn't have taken your anger out on innocent children! How do we explain this to Roxanne, or the public? You claim to act in the Farwell family's best interests, but have you considered the consequences of your actions?"
Sonya fumed at their combined rebuke. "Why are you defending that woman?"
"I'm not taking sides. If it were Roxanne, I would do the sameโremove her from the house!" Elias declared firmly.
Sonya stared in disbelief. "You want to get rid of me?"
Elias, faced with his unreasonable wife, was enraged.
Lucian, unwilling to further engage, stated coldly, "I've made it clear to the children that you need my permission before taking them out."
He turned and stormed from the mansion, leaving Elias to deal with his defiant wife.
