Chapter 1606: There Will Be a Solution
Roxanne couldn't get any information from the children. Worried she would ask further, Archie and Benny suggested playing. Roxanne ceased her questioning and joined them. Soon, the four were happily engaged.
Lucian returned while they were still playing. His grim expression prompted Roxanne's worried question, "Has the matter been resolved?" The children fell silent. Lucian nodded, a look of apology crossing his face as he recalled his mother's words. "Come and play with us, Daddy!" The boys, sensing their father's remorse, clasped his hands. Lucian hesitated briefly before joining the game.
They played for a while longer. The boys' joy eased Lucian's guilt. Later, noticing the late hour, Roxanne urged the children to bed. The couple gazed at their sleeping sons, sorrow etched on their faces.
"You rest first. I want to make a few more calls," Roxanne told Lucian after leaving the room. He frowned. "It's so late. What calls?"
Melancholy clouded Roxanne's features. "I'll try contacting Professor Lambert. Maybe he can help find overseas sources." Though her sadness pained him, Lucian nodded; it was her work.
Roxanne called Harvey, who answered promptly. Learning of her new medicine, the professor expressed pride and offered immediate assistance. However, Damaris Group's herb quality was unique, and Chanaea remained the largest supplier of traditional medicine. Finding foreign substitutes would be difficult. He promised to do his best. Roxanne expressed her gratitude before they ended the call.
It was nearly ten when Roxanne returned to the bedroom. Lucian, showered and leaning against the headboard with a laptop, intently studied something. He closed the laptop upon her entry. "How did it go?"
Roxanne frowned, sadness lingering in her eyes. "Professor Lambert will help, but... we should focus on the domestic market." Lucian, rising to meet her, kissed her, his deep voice soothing. "There'll be a solution. I'm here."
Roxanne smiled, their kiss deepening. His heavier breathing caused her cheeks to flush, prompting her to gently push him away. "I'm showering. You should rest."
Lucian raised an eyebrow. "I'll join you."
Roxanne looked puzzled. "Haven't you already showered...?"
He already held her hand, stripping as they entered the bathroom. "Another shower, and I'll help you unwind." He turned on the water, then leaned in for another kiss. Roxanne started to speak, but he silenced her with a kiss.
