Chapter 1640: Will Be Here
Madilyn mentally calculated that asking Lucian to accompany them would eliminate her outing expenses. Her happiness, however, proved short-lived.
โRoxanne passed out and is still unconscious. She's at the hospital now,โ someone announced.
Madilyn's expression froze. โWhat happened? Which hospital? I'm coming immediately!โ she exclaimed, incredulous.
Lucian provided the address.
Half an hour later, Madilyn arrived, frantic and red-eyed. Seeing Roxanne motionless on the hospital bed, she wept. "What happened? How did this happen? Is this how you care for her?" she demanded, immediately bombarding Lucian with questions.
โItโs my fault,โ Lucian admitted solemnly.
Madilyn, however, wasn't receptive. After a torrent of resentment directed at Lucian, she took Roxanne's hand, murmuring, โCan you hear me? Wake up! The children will be worriedโฆโ
Despite her pleas, Roxanne remained unresponsive. Finally, accepting the futility of her efforts, Madilyn wiped her tears and addressed Lucian again. โWhatโs her prognosis? Did you see a doctor? What did they say?โ
Lucian frowned, gazing into the distance. โIโve consulted both traditional and Western doctors, but they havenโt reached a conclusion. Thatโs why I wanted you to examine her.โ
Madilyn's eyes reddened anew. The Farwell family had sought the best experts, yet they were stumped? What had happened to Roxanne?
Composing herself, Madilyn questioned Lucian further. โHow long has she been unconscious?โ
โSince I picked her up from work yesterday,โ Lucian replied.
This agitated Madilyn further. โWhy didn't you tell me sooner? Do the children know?โ
Lucian offered little explanation, merely stating, โI told them Roxanne was on a business trip.โ
Madilyn sighed in relief. โThat's fine. They're young. We shouldn't frighten them.โ Returning to the main issue, she asked, โAnything else?โ
Lucian recounted Roxanne's drugging.
Realizing Roxanne had been drugged via inhalation, Madilyn gazed at her friend, her eyes filled with pain. โSuch a vicious method! No one would suspect itโฆโ she murmured. Roxanne was too trusting. Even if she awoke and learned sheโd been drugged, she might not learn her lesson.
Madilyn turned back to Lucian. โWhat about the doctors? Absolutely no clues?โ
A flicker of displeasure crossed Lucian's face. โNo conclusion yet. I can call them and have them explain their findings to you.โ
Madilyn nodded. โOkay. I'll speak to them myself. Don't worry. Roxanne's problems are mine too. I'll do my best!โ
โThank you,โ Lucian said.
Madilyn seemed slightly displeased. โRoxanne and I arenโt usually this formal. Why don't you try to figure this out too? I'll stay here.โ
Lucian hummed in response and left.
