Chapter 1642: A Lesson
โThat was merely a suggestion,โ Linda said hurriedly. โWe have other esteemed doctors at the institute. I believe they will find a solution.โ
Linda had been abroad; upon her return, sheโd heard the gossip about Colbyโs actions toward Roxanne. The last time Roxanne lost consciousness, it was Colbyโs fault. Linda worried, "Mr. Farwell won't trust him. How could I have even suggested it?" She nearly wept at her own folly.
Just as she considered a solution, she heard Lucian's solemn, โI understand.โ
Linda was stunned. Understand what?
โAnything else?โ Lucian asked coldly.
Linda quickly shook her head. โNo. Please be at ease. Many other doctors are capable of what Dr. Galloway does. Iโll liaise with international experts; Dr. Jarvis studied under Dr. Lambert, providing a valuable network. Iโm sure theyโll help!โ
Lucian nodded. โIโll leave it to you. If they help, I will reward you upon Roxanneโs recovery.โ
โThis is what I should do,โ Linda affirmed. She and Roxanne had worked together abroad; Roxanne was more than a leader to her, a friend. Helping Roxanne now felt fitting.
Lucian understood and thanked her again. โRegardless, I thank you. If thereโs nothing else, Iโll leave you to your work. I have other matters to attend to.โ
He left the institute, then sat in his car, tapping the steering wheel. Hesitation clouded his eyes.
Colby Gallowayโฆ According to Linda, if he could identify medicinal properties and cure Roxanne, perhaps a visit was warranted. Yet, Colby had nearly killed Roxanne. The thought hardened Lucianโs gaze. He wasn't sure he could restrain himself from attacking Colby if he saw him.
After some deliberation, Lucian decided. He started the car and drove toward the cityโs outskirts prison. Roxanneโs cure was paramount; even a small chance was worth pursuing.
Roxanneโs previous coma resulted from poisoning. Colby was serving a year-and-a-half sentence. Lucian called a friend to arrange a meeting en route.
At the prison entrance, people awaited him.
โMr. Farwell, Mr. Galloway is in the meeting room.โ
The warden seemed deferential. Lucian nodded slightly. โI appreciate it.โ
At the meeting room entrance, Lucian glanced through the window. Colby, his hair closely shaved, sat listlessly, looking haggard. A warden stood nearby. A few months in prison had clearly taught him a lesson.
Lucian entered. Colby felt only suspicion. He had no friends or family; no one had visited during his imprisonment. This unexpected meeting was unnerving.
Roxanne's face flashed in his mind. He vehemently shut, then opened his eyes, consumed by self-loathing.
