Chapter 1643: Hypocrite

โ€œItโ€™s been a while, Dr. Galloway,โ€ Lucian said, looking down at the man from the doorway.

Colbyโ€™s expression hardened. He glared at Lucian as he entered. โ€œLucian Farwell! Why are you here? To gloat? Donโ€™t think that just because Dr. Jarvis dislikes me, sheโ€™ll be with you! Deep down, youโ€™re nothing but trash to her!โ€

Colby had been cut off from information since his imprisonment. At that time, Roxanne and Lucian were still estranged. Colby assumed Roxanne harbored resentment from six years prior.

Displeasure flickered in Lucianโ€™s eyes, but he quickly composed himself. He slowly approached, pulled out a chair, and sat down opposite Colby, whose hands and feet were cuffed. Trapped behind the table, all Colby could do was glare.

โ€œIf not for you, I wouldnโ€™t be here! Yet you have the audacity to appear before me?โ€

Lucian, though upset, suppressed his anger, remembering his purpose. โ€œDr. Galloway, thereโ€™s no need for anger. Iโ€™m not here to mock you, or to fight.โ€ He intently studied Colby, assessing his trustworthiness.

Colby met his gaze, his brow furrowing. Apart from their past conflict, he couldnโ€™t fathom a connection to Lucian.

After a long silence, Lucian finally spoke. โ€œSomething happened to Roxanne.โ€

The words struck Colby like lightning. โ€œWhat did you say?โ€ His eyes widened, his face contorting. โ€œWas it you? You couldnโ€™t have her, so youโ€ฆโ€

Heโ€™d committed a terrible act against Roxanne, but it was accidental, unintentional. He would never hurt her.

Lucian, seeing Colbyโ€™s reaction, relaxed slightly. โ€œIf it were me, I wouldnโ€™t be here,โ€ he said solemnly.

Colby fell silent, then quickly concluded, โ€œWas it Jack?โ€ He could think of no one else. Jack must have used traditional medicine on Roxanne; otherwise, why would Lucian be here?

โ€œIโ€™ve said it before! Heโ€™s a bad man, keep Dr. Jarvis away from him! Heโ€™s a hypocrite! I could smell his duplicity a mile away! His intentions toward Dr. Jarvis are far from pure!โ€ Colby raged. โ€œWhat did he do to Dr. Jarvis?โ€

Colbyโ€™s concern for Roxanne displeased Lucian, but the image of Roxanne helpless in a hospital bed quelled his anger. Ironically, Lucian felt fortunate. Colbyโ€™s strong reaction proved his continued care for Roxanne, meaning he'd strive to help her.

Lucian then recounted the incident. โ€œJack drugged her by burning a herb and making her inhale it. The drug took effect last night, and Roxanne has been unconscious since.โ€
