Chapter 1673: Searched the Library

Following Madilyn's departure, pin-drop silence filled the ward. Lucian dragged a chair to Roxanne's bedside and took her hand, a tender look on his face.

โ€œDonโ€™t worry, Roxanne. Everyoneโ€™s thinking of ways to save you. Even Old Mr. Lomax is here, reviewing references with Jonathan. I believe heโ€™ll find a solution. I think youโ€™d want to meet him,โ€ Lucian said patiently, though she couldn't hear him. โ€œI also know about Archie and Bennyโ€™s parentage now. Iโ€™m sorry I didnโ€™t realize they were my children sooner. Iโ€™m grateful I didnโ€™t treat them with prejudice. Youโ€™ve raised them well. On the other hand, I failed to care for our daughter properly. Because of me, our three children grew up in an incomplete family. Now that I know the truth, I only want to compensate you all, but that can only happen if you wake up. Youโ€™ll fight this for the kids, wonโ€™t you?โ€

Gently rubbing her hand, he tightened his grip unconsciously, falling silent for a moment before adding, โ€œIf the doctors havenโ€™t found a solution in three days, Iโ€™ll have to agree to Jackโ€™s request. Heโ€™ll undoubtedly force me to marry another woman. I hope that when you regain consciousnessโ€ฆโ€ He paused, sighing. โ€œWhen you wake up and wish to hate me, you can. It was my fault for failing to protect you, so this burden is mine to bear.โ€

Roxanne remained unresponsive. Lucianโ€™s heart ached too deeply for him to continue. He sat beside her bed, gazing at her in silence.

Another sleepless night followed.

The next morning, Lucian left the ward before the doctors arrived. Watching them from the corridor, he contacted Jonathan. Heโ€™d lost contact with Peregrine after his last hospital visit and wondered if heโ€™d developed any treatment plans.

Jonathan answered after a while.

โ€œWhatโ€™s wrong, Lucian? Did Roxanneโ€™s condition worsen?โ€ Jonathan whispered, clearly hiding somewhere.

Lucian frowned. โ€œAre you still reviewing references?โ€

Jonathan nodded. โ€œWe worked all night and searched almost every medical book in the library, butโ€ฆโ€

At the thought of the outcome, Jonathan hesitated. They'd reviewed countless references, yet Old Mr. Lomax remained clueless about how to treat Roxanne. He couldn't bring himself to tell Lucian.

Lucian, sensing the lack of progress, didnโ€™t press further. โ€œHelp me thank and care for Old Mr. Lomax. Iโ€™ll thank him again personally tomorrow.โ€ Old Mr. Lomaxโ€™s willingness to stay up all night, at his advanced age, was deeply moving.

Jonathan sighed silently, then comforted Lucian, โ€œThereโ€™s another day. Weโ€™ll find a way. Donโ€™t worry.โ€

Lucian grunted and immediately ended the call, preventing Jonathan from saying more. Jonathan stared at his dimming phone screen, then at Peregrine, who was reviewing medical texts. He felt disheartened.

Despite his earlier reassurance to Lucian, he couldn't ignore the grim reality. The chances of saving Roxanne with their limited resources were slim.
