Chapter 1675: Do Not Have To Apologize
Lucian fell silent for a few moments before saying, โYour mommy is busy, but she should be back by tomorrow. Weโll call you when we arrive at the airport.โ
The children were worried, as Roxanne had been unreachable for the past few days. However, after Lucian promised their return the next day, they relaxed, saying, โOkay. Daddy, you must take good care of Mommy!โ
Lucian grunted in acknowledgment. โGive your watch to Ms. Catalina. I need to speak with her.โ
He heard a rustling sound before Catalinaโs voice rang out. โMr. Lucian.โ
โHow are the children? Did anything unusual happen?โ Lucian asked.
Catalina glanced at the children on the couch, noting their wide, expectant eyes. Recalling the past two days, she replied, โNo. Mr. Archie, Mr. Benny, and Ms. Estella were all very well-behaved.โ Then, remembering something, she added, โI believe Mr. Archie and Mr. Benny had a phone conversation with a friend overseas, but Iโm not sure what they discussed.โ
Lucian considered her words, confirming the children didnโt suspect anything. โAll right. Please do your best to look after them. Thank you for your dedication.โ
โOf course. You and Mrs. Farwell take care, too.โ
After the call ended, Lucian gazed at Roxanne and caressed her pale cheek. โDid you hear that, Roxanne? The kids are waiting for you to come home. Youโll wake up soon, right?โ
Roxanne remained motionless, her breathing shallow and almost imperceptible.
Lucianโs fists clenched as he seemed to struggle with a decision.
Madilyn entered the ward, her eyes swollen and red from crying. Her voice trembled as she asked, โDo the kids know?โ
Lucian shook his head. โNo. Iโve asked Catalina, and they havenโt suspected anything, as long as Roxanne contacts them before tomorrow night.โ
โTomorrow night?โ Madilynโs heart sank, dreading the approaching day. It was already the second day; if they couldn't resolve the situation by tomorrow morning, they would have to agree to Jackโs condition.
Madilyn dreaded Roxanneโs reaction upon regaining consciousness, as well as the childrenโs response. Before returning home, Archie and Benny had been prejudiced against Lucian. It had taken him a long time to win them over. If the children discovered his marriage to another woman while Roxanne was critically ill, they would likely hate him for life.
A heavy weight of guilt settled on Madilynโs heart. โIโm sorry,โ she muttered, her gaze fixed on the floor.
Lucianโs brows furrowed, unsure why she apologized.
Feeling heavy-hearted, Madilyn explained, โBecause of what happened six years ago, I was biased against you and assumed you were a scoundrel. I even told Roxanne to stay away from you. I had no idea youโd do this for her.โ
Lucianโs gaze darkened. โYou donโt have to apologize to me. It was my fault six years ago. I will make it up to her now.โ
โSix years ago, I wronged Roxanne. Little did I know I would be making the same mistake again six years later. If I had been more aware of my emotions when I was younger, or if I had taken it upon myself to set her free when we met again after so many years, she wouldnโt have had to endure so muchโฆโ
