Chapter 1697: Heaviness

After their meal, Elektra said farewell. "I should go home. My family will become suspicious if I don't."

Lucian nodded. "Please let me know if your parents encounter any problems. I'll handle it."

Elektra smiled and nodded. "Okay."

Lucian glanced at the time, remembering their sleepless night. "Wait," he said. "I'll have my assistant send you home."

He turned to Madilyn. "You should go home and rest. You haven't slept much since caring for Roxanne these past few days. I can manage now that she's awake."

Madilyn didn't argue. "I'll leave Roxanne with you, then."

Recalling the earlier ward atmosphere, she added, worriedly, "Roxanne has just recovered. Don't be angry with her. You two can talk things out after her discharge."

Lucian called Cayden to pick up the women. Cayden arrived quickly and went upstairs. Soon, Lucian was alone in the corridor.

The doctors, having completed their examination, called out, "Mr. Farwell."

Lucian nodded and approached them. They had finished examining Roxanne, but their expressions were grim.

"How did it go?" Lucian's heart sank as he anxiously looked at Roxanne.

Roxanne offered a faint smile, though she still looked pale. Meeting his gaze, her smile widened, as if to comfort him.

Lucian's brow furrowed, and he took her hand. The doctors, after a long pause, finally spoke. Hesitantly, one doctor announced, "The hardening of Mrs. Farwell's arteries has visibly reduced, and her bleeding has also shown signs of improvement."

However, their examination only indicated improvement, not complete recovery. They seemed unsure how to proceed.

Lucian sensed their hesitation. "When will she be completely cured, then?" he asked coldly.

"Um..." The doctors exchanged glances, unable to provide a definitive answer.

Roxanne smiled and spoke up. "I'll be cured soon. Please leave, doctors. I just woke up and am still tired. I'd like some quiet."

Lucian frowned. "You aren't cured."

Roxanne gave him a reassuring smile. "Don't forget, I'm a doctor myself. I diagnosed myself as poisoned before I passed out. No one knows my body better than I do."

The doctors were astonished. They had struggled to determine the cause of her symptoms, yet she'd diagnosed herself before losing consciousness. They stared at her in amazement, impressed by her skill.

Lucian's gaze softened, but seeing her determined expression, he agreed. "Please leave." He acknowledged Roxanne's superior medical expertise.

The doctors nodded and left the couple alone.

Lucian looked at Roxanne, his heart heavy with an inexplicable feeling. She had taken the antidote and was awake, yet a profound weight pressed on his chest.
