Chapter 1699: A Comeback

When she received no answer, Roxanne felt puzzled and was about to go check. Seeing her move, the others snapped out of their reverie and hurried into the ward.

"Is there something you need, Mrs. Farwell?" they asked.

Only then did Roxanne sit down. "Is Lucian gone?"

The doctors nodded hesitantly, their gazes filled with uncertainty. Noting their expressions, Roxanne smiled. "I told him to get me some fruit. It should take him a while. Anyway, I need to talk to all of you."

The doctors sighed in relief.

Roxanne's expression then turned serious. "You've received the results of my examination, yes? The antidote worked, but only slowed the poison's effects temporarily. It can't cure me. If left unchecked, the poison might return."

In other words, Jack had only given her part of the antidoteโ€”his method of poisoning her. The antidote required multiple doses, but Lucian had only received one. Roxanne had suspected this during her examination, but was confident she could resolve it without worrying Lucian. Therefore, she'd sent him away to discuss it with the doctors.

The moment she finished, the room's atmosphere tightened. The doctors found her exceptionally slow recovery peculiar. They never expected such an accurate prognosis from her in so little time. Admiration filled their eyes before they quickly regained their composure.

"You're right," they began, jumping into the discussion. "The poison is unusual. To be honest, we didn't identify it as poisoning before Mr. Farwell mentioned it. Even after confirming it, we couldn't identify the poison."

Roxanne frowned. "Did you run blood tests?"

The doctors nodded dejectedly. "We tested everything, but found no leads."

A grim look crossed Roxanne's face. "You're world-renowned experts. I doubt you discovered nothing in these past few days. Tell me anything, even a guess. I need your help."

Their perception of her shifted again. They knew her medical skills far surpassed theirs, yet she sought their help, demonstrating considerable trust. Her words reinvigorated them after days of discouragement.

Exchanging glances, they adopted a more professional demeanor and renewed confidence. They began detailing their tests and hypotheses from the past few days. Roxanne listened, nodding thoughtfully.

When they finished, she paused, then offered a grateful smile. "I have some ideas, but I need your help with further blood tests to confirm some things."
