Chapter 1768: Not Allowed To Go Today

After a few cups of coffee, Jonathan hastily retreated, claiming excessive caffeine would cause insomnia. Lucian watched him leave, his smile gradually fading into a thoughtful expression.

He wondered about Frieda's acquaintance. Considering Old Mr. Lomax's status, their sudden friendship and his subsequent trip to Horington to treat a virtual stranger seemed improbable. Directly questioning Old Mr. Lomax was, unfortunately, inappropriate.

Deciding on a course of action, he grabbed his phone and called Cayden. "Arrange an investigation into everyone Frieda has recently contacted, particularly those with northern accents. Thoroughly check any leads."

"Got it. I'll start immediately," Cayden replied.

A week passed unnoticed. Lucian took Roxanne for several checkups, confirming the complete removal of toxins. She then resumed her research and development work.

One morning, she awoke to find Lucian still asleep. He looked even more handsome than usual. She gently stroked his face, her gaze drawn to his lips. Leaning down, she kissed him briefly.

He didn't wake, merely turning over to continue sleeping. Roxanne quietly got up, washed, and went downstairs for breakfast before returning to the room.

Lucian opened his eyes sleepily. "Why are you up so early? Sleep a little longer."

"No, it's fine. I've had enough sleep. I need to go to the research institute soon. Several projects are launching today, and Old Mr. Lomax is waiting. You'll have to take the children to school!"

Smiling, Roxanne didn't wait for his reply, quickly kissing his cheek before leaving. Lucian, however, stopped her, wrapping an arm around her waist.

"Can't you take some time off to rest? I know you've been working tirelessly at the institute these past few days. You're not going today!"

He hugged her tightly, his voice turning reproving. "You haven't spent much time with the children since your illness. You owe Essie for your absence these past few years, and Archie and Benny deserve the same. Don't go anywhere today. Let's spend time together as a family."

His gentleness was profound. Roxanne tried to argue, but he kissed her.

The passionate kiss shocked her. "Good Lord! He wore me out last night, and it's only been a few hours!" Her resistance was futile; he overwhelmed her instantly.

Afterwards, she felt exhausted, resting her head on his arm. Lucian, on the other hand, was grinning.

"Now that the Queen family controls the medicinal herb supply chain, and with Old Mr. Lomax's help, you no longer need to conduct many experiments personally. Let him lead the researchers. Otherwise, the institute will only have you, not a full team. Do you understand?"

Roxanne nodded, understanding his gentle reminder. She needed to delegate. Being a core member didn't mean doing everything herself.

She called Linda. "I won't be coming in today, Linda. Note the upcoming projects and have Old Mr. Lomax lead some key personnel in starting the experiments..."

By the time she finished, Lucian was up and washed, and the triplets were awake.
