Chapter 1778: Do Not Be Controlling
As soon as she left, Elias's expression darkened. "What's wrong with you? Why are you discussing our family matters with outsiders?" His tone was stern, causing Sonya's expression to change dramatically.
"What? I didn't say anything wrong. Elektra is much closer to me than Roxanne; she's not an outsider. Besides, if she were, why would she help Lucian save Roxanne?"
Taking in Sonya's enraged expression, Elias furrowed his brows. "Why can't you respect Lucian's choices? He's not a child. Stop being so controlling and obsessive. Let him handle his relationships, marriage, and family matters. Can't you just enjoy your own life?"
Elias's philosophy was to go with the flow. Decades in the business world had taught him that no one heeds others' advice, not even from those closest to them. Therefore, even knowing Lucian might make mistakes taking over Farwell Group, he allowed his son to learn from them. Nothing substitutes the experience of learning from one's own mistakes. However, Sonya couldn't grasp this.
She stood, hands on her hips. "I'm doing this for Lucian! I'm sure Roxanne, believing Essie wouldn't survive, abandoned her. Then she had two other children with another man and pretended they were part of the Farwell family. Do you know about this?"
Elias was stunned. "What do you mean?" he asked quickly.
"Lucian says Archie and Benny are his biological children—triplets with Essie! Can you believe that?" Sonya declared confidently.
Elias pondered. "It's surprising, but easily verifiable. A DNA test would reveal the truth. Do you think our son wouldn't know?" He hoped Sonya would be rational; otherwise, their relationship with Lucian would only deteriorate.
"Yes, but Lucian offered no evidence and wants me to accept those two as my grandsons! How can I? Do you think Roxanne poisoned Lucian to manipulate him? You should take him for a medical checkup!" Her suspicion grew with each word.
Elias sighed, trying to explain gently. "Aubree already harmed Essie. We must remain calm. I'll discuss a DNA test with Lucian. You really need to stop being so obsessive."
But Sonya wasn't listening. She felt everyone sided with Roxanne. "Don't mention Aubree. Before Roxanne, Aubree was fine. Who knows what Roxanne did to provoke her? It's not entirely Aubree's fault!"
Seeing he couldn't convince her—changing her prejudice against Roxanne wouldn't happen quickly—Elias gave up. He could only work on it gradually.
"Okay, let's not discuss this. We haven't seen Essie in a while. School's almost out; let's visit her." He changed the subject, calming Sonya. She nodded in agreement.
