Chapter 1789: Narrow Miss
The baby dolphin's performance began. The audience was quite understanding; the dolphin was young and only needed to perform a warm-up. However, the triplets' presence seemed to excite the young dolphin.
The triplets and a plump boy stood in a row, awaiting the performance. "Kids, be prepared! The baby dolphin will glide past you quickly!" the keeper instructed, signaling the dolphin, which immediately swam away to build up speed.
"All the best, baby dolphin!" Estella exclaimed, waving enthusiastically. Archie stood at the front, Estella in the middle, and Benny at the back. Benny glanced at the self-satisfied, overweight boy behind them.
"What are you looking at, stupid boy?" the plump boy sneered.
The keeper signaled again. The baby dolphin, with a joyous shout and determined vigor, swam energetically across the pool. Swoosh, swoosh, swoosh… A few seconds later, it burst from the water, heading towards the children. Gracefully maneuvering past Archie's right, then Estella's left, and finally Benny's right, its speed was surprisingly fast, exceeding expectations and earning enthusiastic applause.
The dolphin then aimed to glide past the overweight boy's left. However, the boy shifted, facing the dolphin head-on. Horror gripped the onlookers; a collision seemed inevitable. While injury to a child would be concerning, the boy weighed around eighty pounds—a typical adult weight. The baby dolphin, weighing only thirty to forty pounds, would undoubtedly be hurt.
Suddenly, Archie spun and tackled the overweight boy with incredible speed. Estella, eyes squeezed shut, dared not watch. The baby dolphin's parents, sensing danger, swam rapidly towards the pool's edge, ready to intervene.
"Archie!" Roxanne gasped, trembling with fear. Lucian reacted instantly, leaping over the railing. In a flash, Archie collided with the boy, the baby dolphin gliding harmlessly past. The plump boy stumbled to the ground. Simultaneously, the parents leaped from the water, aiming for the boy. Lucian quickly scooped Archie into his arms.
The keeper, initially stunned, quickly regained his composure, sternly reprimanding the adult dolphins. The entire incident unfolded in a heartbeat, leaving the audience speechless. Roxanne breathed a sigh of relief, realizing Archie was safe. Her earlier nervousness had left her breathless.
